Re: 7/11 (SAT) The Responsibilities of the Social Media (Host:Lewis Lu)

I go to a breakfast shop almost everyday in order to read hardcopy Apple Daily and United Daily News. It is the happiest moment for me everyday. The feeling of reading physical newspapers is reminiscent of my youth days. I noticed in the breaskfast shops that people who read newspapers are mostly of...

Kooper, Last time when you scolded us and said "You guys have gone too far. Take back your messages. I mean all people!", I was very shocked. That was the first time I saw you so angry. It is good you spoke out your issue in here. Speaking out can relieve people's mental stress and make them feel be...

Re: 7/4 (SAT) Do You Listen to Podcasts? (Host:Annie)

I heard of "podcast", but I always thought it was a product of Apple because of the word "pod". I didn't know it was free of charge, so I never ever tried it before until this topic pops up. Up until yesterday, I usually listened to YouTube video to accompany me for sleep. But Youtube has too many a...

Re: 6/27 (Sat.) Skin-Whitening / Racist Products (Host:Rosie)

Yeah.....

Today I read on newspaper that the producer of the all time popular situation comedy "Friends" cried and apologized to the public , saying he was sorry he did not use any black actor or actress in "Friends".

This is going overboard and ridiculous.

Re: 6/27 (Sat.) Skin-Whitening / Racist Products (Host:Rosie)

If rich countries in this world now were those countries governed by black people and poor countries in this world were those dominated by white people, would we still think fair-skinned is preferable? I guess not. Racism is not so much human instinct as class divide ( I mean rich v.s. poor) Some of...

Re: 6/27 (Sat.) Skin-Whitening / Racist Products (Host:Rosie)

When my daughter was one and half years old, there was once we brought her to meet my wife's French language exchange partner, who is a black priest from Africa. We let him hold my daughter in the arms, and the baby girl kept staring at the black priest for about 3 minutes.  And then a few drop of t...

Politicians these days are more interested in playing to the ga___y than exercising real influence on world events. Iris, I learned an idiom from your comment. take the wind out of somebody’s sails informal to make someone lose their confidence, especially by saying or doing something unexpected (我想不出中文該怎麼翻) Luis, I learned even more from your comment 1.straw man American English a weak opponent or imaginary argu...

Hi, Janice, I learned an idiom from your comment.

"have something at your/their etc fingertips"

to have knowledge or information ready and available to use very easily

Ex. We have all the facts and figures at our fingertips.

A dangling carrot is also good to learn.

Re: 6/13 (Sat.) "THE LAST EMPEROR" and "橫道世之介" (Host: Leon)

After today's meeting, I patiently watched the second half of the Japanese movie, and all of a sudden, out of blue, the movie ends. And then I watched the two video clips Leon provided. The first clip on Facebook is much better than the second one on Youtube, which is too long and portrays the movie...

I saw a CNN poll on TV the other day. The poll indicates that 84% of people support peaceful protests. So, although many white folks support Trump, still, most Americans know what is right and what is wrong regarding the police brutality issue, as the poll shows. Iris, you forgot to put on the atten...

Re: 6/9 (Tue.) Factfulness: Ten Reasons We’re Wrong About the World (Host: Iris)

I ever thought about the issue of media being neutral. I have come to the conclusion that neutral media may not exist. Maybe no media in this word is neutral. Why? If you write a news report about earthquake or a murder case, you don't need to have a position.(立場) However, if you write or make a com...
