Here comes this month's language activity at the Brass Monkey! It’s this Sunday!!

This month's theme is Corporal Punishment in School.

Have you ever been struck by a teacher in school? Were you traumatized by the physical punishment? Opinions on corporal punishment of children in school are varied. Corporal punishment has been used in schools in many countries, but the practice has been made illegal in others. In Taiwan students are punished mainly because of bad grades or sometimes misbehavior, while in the US twenty-eight states have banned the practice. Researcher Elizabeth Gershoff, Ph.D., in a 2002 study that combined 60 years of research on corporal punishment, found that such punishment was linked to negative outcomes, including increased rates of aggression, delinquency, mental health problems, problems in relationships with parents, and the likelihood of being physically abused. How would you feel if your kids were caned by teachers in school? Should corporal punishment be outlawed?
