A Freezing Night

A Freezing Night

文章Georgia » 週四 2月 28, 2008 4:47 am

I'm still awake in the middle of the night, or shall I say just before dawn? The weatherman says that the temperature in Northern Taiwan is going down to less than 10 degrees Celsius for the following two days. Sometimes it's so cold that I don't wash my hair so often because I may easily catch a cold every time I wash my hair in these kind of winter days. Now my hair is starting to smell like hair, I think it's high time for an overall cleansing. After playing my worn-out sweater with her claws, my cat, Mimi, has fallen asleep on her little round pillow, blowing out sweet and satisfied snores. Great. Now I don't have my buddy to talk with, and it's freezing cold.

There is nothing like a song with ice cold theme that keep you warm and toasty inside. 10 degree Celius? Is that warm enough for polar bears to have a heat stroke?

"Skating Away on the Thin Ice of the New Day"

Meanwhile back in the Year One - when you belonged to no-one -
You didn't stand a chance son, if your pants were undone.
'Cause you were bred for Humanity and sold to Society -
One day you'll wake up in the Present Day -
A million generations removed from expectations
Of being who you really want to be.

Skating Away-ay! Skating Away-ay!
Skating Away-ay on the Thin Ice of the New Day-ay-ay-ay-ay.
Ay-ay-ay-ay!

So as you push off from the shore, won't you turn your head once more -
And make your peace with everyone?
For those who choose to stay, will live just one more day -
To do the things they should have done.
And as you cross the wilderness, spinning in your emptiness:
You feel you have to pray.
Looking for a sign that the Universal Mind(!)
Has written you into the Passion Play.

Skating Away-ay! Skating Away-ay!
Skating Away-ay on the Thin Ice of the New Day-ay-ay-ay-ay.
Ay-ay-ay-ay!

And as you cross the Circle Line, well, the ice-wall creaks behind -
You're a rabbit on the run.

And the silver splinters fly in the corner of your eye -
Shining in the setting sun.
Well, do you ever get the feeling that the Story's too damn real and in
the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage, and it seems like
You're the only person sitting in the audience?

Skating Away-ay! Skating Away-ay!
Skating Away-ay on the Thin Ice of the New Day-ay-ay-ay-ay.
Ay-ay-ay-ay!

Skating Away-ay!
Skating Away-ay!
Skating Away!

Did you actually mean "Isn't that warm enough for polar bears to have a heat stroke?"
Well I'd rather have some magic turn me into one under this weather.
The guy in the video reminds me of Phoebe Buffay..... ha...

I wish I can say that it is remarkable how human body copes with extreme temperatures, but that isn't exactly true. The so-called ambient temperature range is pretty narrow.

Room temperature (also referred to as ambient temperature) is a common term to denote a certain temperature within enclosed space at which human beings are accustomed. Room temperature is thus often indicated by general human comfort, with the common range of 18°C (64°F) to 23°C (73°F), though climate may acclimatise people to higher or lower temperatures.
The term can also refer to a temperature of food to be consumed (e.g., red wine) which is placed in such a room for a given time. Furthermore, it may refer to a certain temperature within settings of scientific experiments and calculations.
For human comfort, desirable room temperature greatly depends on individual needs and various other factors. According to the West Midlands Public Health Observatory (UK)[1], 21 °C (70 °F) is the recommended living room temperature, whereas 18 °C (64 °F) is the recommended bedroom temperature. A study carried out at the University of Uppsala (Sweden)[2], on indoor air quality and subjective indoor air quality (SIAQ) in primary schools, states that perception of high room temperature was related to a poor climate of cooperation. To achieve a good SIAQ, it recommends room temperature should be at a maximum of 22.0 °C (71.6 °F).

hmmm.... suddenly I realized one thing: we don't have a thermometer in our house. Maybe we never thought we'd need one.... in fact, I don't. I need a heater.
