Article

Narcissism is a necessary condition of infants and children. It’s a built in trait due to their inability to take care of even the most basic needs. An infant or child abandoned by mother, to the child means death. Their world revolves around “me” and getting “my” needs and wants all met.

Children exposed to other children learn that it’s fun to socialize and play with other kids, join clubs that cater to kids, and do group sleep overs. Slowly the narcissism fades away but never totally.

By adolescence narcissism fades further into the background as young persons realize that they are no longer the center of attention. No one, not even mom is catering to their every need. They have learned unconsciously that narcissism doesn’t fit in with the crowd and sit’s important to fit in.

A few people usually don’t socialize but when they do they still demand center stage and will manipulate and lie to get the attention of the group to focus on them. They are into control and the feelings of others mean nothing to them, unless in some way they are useful.

This narcissistic behavior is a sign that the individual hasn’t completed the normal stage of development that signals an end to immaturity and narcissism along with it.

Great, it's a topic we've never talked about before.

I don't think infants or babies are narcissists. It's true that they act like they are the center of the universe because they need being taken care of. But babies don't act like "Oh! I'm beautiful! I'm the best!"; they simply go "Waaa~~~". :ccry:

guess i'm a bit of a narcissist, a bit self-centered, and have a bit inferiority complex to name a few, but still, my reflections always trouble me. it's all about my personality. since it's been deeply influenced by how i grew up and/or how i were brought up, and rooted for ages, i can only try hard to introspect about it, but it will never totally fade away i would say. a leopard can't change its spots, can it?
i might be a cynic and, a sceptic as well but, i'm definitely not a bad person!!
