The first video clip is hilarious - by today's standard, but the moment may come some time in the near future when a man looks suspicious and even scary if they leave no digital footprint on the Internet.

BTW, here is another one with subtitle if their British accent troubles you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMtbGy3BThc

Some expressions from the clip:

He is completely off the grid, a ghost if you will.

Clearly he is catfishing you - in reverse.
if you will (also if you like): used to say that a particular expression is one way of saying something, especially to suggest that some people may not choose to say it that way (Cambridge)
e.g. I did very well in school , with a "genius IQ" if you will.

Off The Grid: The term for a person who is not on a social networking site (Urban dictionary)

catfishing: the practice of lying about yourself on the Internet in order to make people admire you, especially so that someone will start a relationship with you (Longman)

Nice heads-up for our reflection on how we live in this tech world. The plots in the first video theatrically highlight the new “identity crisis” in the world of social media. The TED talk gracefully points out that our “white personal space” has been quickly invaded or colonized, of course, without our consensus. The speaker advises that people should once a while consciously restrain ourselves from using digital devices and get a true self retreat.

But for the sake of discussion, is technology (or any advancement) always an easy target to be blamed for any human society changes? What is the true identity? Can a person without anything prove he is himself? Long ago, people were fine in their immediate circle, but once they left their own village, the same wonder and skepticism (as today's) applied. They had to merge into the new “practice” in the new village and prove who they are and win the credibility over time under an ancient “surveillance” system. For me, the social media may be just a new tool, a new platform and with a more global scope, but the underlined spirit has been the same. We’d lost our true identity probably long before the internet age.

The “stopping cues” is a good concept, but it is easy to assume that before the new technological invention, people were good at utilizing the “white personal space” for any self-cultivation. Is it true? Were people in previous generations really wiser, more artistic, more philosophical or more appreciative? I don’t know the answer, but just thought it may not be the quantity of our white space, it is the quality. It is probably hard to quantify if we will get better results by spacing out for four hours for just one hour for our retreat, but I do think the abundance advice and tools available on the virtual world enlighten me more, even with the less stopping cues.

Thanks for Kooper's comments and encouragement! It means a lot to me! (Who doesn't like to get compliments from Kooper? :) )
Nowadays we all like to have short chat on LINE, Messenger, WeChat, etc., because it is more direct, quicker and less troublesome. Writing on the forum is very time-consuming, but it lasts. There are a few English clubs in Taiwan, but it seems YoYo forum is the only one with more active comments or thread of comments. I am glad to be part of this group.

Yeah, besides that, writing on the forum is a good way to practice writing. We gotta take advantage of this tool.
