9/29 (Sat.) YouTube (Host: Rosie)

文章 Rosie »

Topic: YouTube

YouTube is a successful platform which is educational, and also entertaining. People can find targeted YouTube video around the world. You can learn how to plumbing, what's wrong with this or that, see and hear videos of popular songs or artists from way back in the day. It's a very useful tool for other learning tutorials as well such as what's a Narcissist, dating advice, how to cook things - it's over the top with selections. Thus it helps general public in day to day lives and gathers more audiences.

It also gives creators their income by monetizing advertisement in their videos and good place for advertisement for companies.

This time there are no youtube videos for watching.

Questions for discussion
Session one:

Q1. The link below is a list for the most subscribed YouTube channels in Taiwan. What do you observe from the list?
https://vidooly.com/top-youtube-channel ... subscribed

Q2.Do you subscribe YouTube channels or just watch it randomly? Please share with us your favorite channel or some funny/useful YouTube clips.

Q3. Is being a YouTuber considered a career? What skills do you need to be a good YouTuber? How does a YouTuber make money for living?

Session two:
Q4. What do you think that people get used to receive information by watching YouTube instead of reading books? How do books and videos affect your brian?

Q5. Do you like YouTube’s algorithm? It recommends videos similar to the ones that a user has watched. From one side, this does not allow you to go "out of box" and discover something new. From another side, it can be used by politicians (once you watch a video of the right wing party, you will get many recommendations of similar directions). Then this can be also used by Google or governments to guide your political views.

Q6. Do you think Facebook became a better place without embedded Youtube links? Formally, it was explained as "It is better to see people discussing their news on FB rather than watching too many Youtube videos". However, everything what behind is money from adverts.

Q4. What do you think that people get used to receive information by watching YouTube instead of reading books? Will people get bad at reading?

Definitely. Reading is a skill that demands plenty of time and devotion. It's not the ultimate form of communication, either.
In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.

I recently found a program called "Paternity Court" on YouTube.

This program is a reality court show, featuring real people who need a DNA test to confirm if they are
the father or not.

It is quite interesting to watch these real life stories. This program has English caption, so it is helpful for English learning too.

( By the way, since we can watch almost everything on YouTube now, including live news, I already cut off my cable TV for saving money)

When googling information about the YouTube on the Internet, I came across this interesting news. This Korean YouTuber gained popularity through literally no contents – just hours and hours of livestream of his studying alone. He remained silent and did nothing but studying throughout the video clip.

Other than enjoying his good looks - studies have suggested that our brain rewards us for looking at pretty faces - I am wondering what drove audience to watch and like his videos. One of my wild guesses is for people who are also preparing for some kinds of life-changing test and are studying long hours every day, keeping the man's video on play may make them feel accompanied and motivated.
