2. 橫道世之介 (Yokomichi Yonosuke)

If you have time, please watch both clips. (they are similar but capture different detail)
By watching these 2 clips, I hope you can get some idea of this movie.
Having said that it is better to see original movie since these clips still miss many detail and some important part like main actress.
(Her characteristics is really charming.)

The Last Emperor is such a classic epic movie that I guess most of people in our generation ever watched it. Its music is particularly awesome. I remember I bought its movie soundtrack tape(錄音帶). The leading actress 陳沖 is still on the screen, and I wonder where the leading actor 尊龍 has been? He is so cool and handsome!

I am interested in the life story of 溥儀, so I ever watched a TV series about him, who is played by 陳道明.

As for the Japanese movie, I never watch it before. Will find time to watch it before the meeting.

The Last Emperor is such a classic epic movie that I guess most of people in our generation ever watched it. Its music is particularly awesome. I remember I bought its movie soundtrack tape(錄音帶).

Today I watched the Japanese movie, and decided to quit at 1:14.

It is dull, and I don't understnad what point this movie tries to express. No wonder it is not a famous movie. All I can think of is that the boy in the movie is from country side, so he is pure and not judgemental to people in the big city? Is that the point? I don't know.

Sorry for being blunt.

Yes, I also feel dull at the beginning part(but it is meaningful after watching whole movie) and almost decide to quit.
However, once the leading actress show up, it brighten the movie.
Maybe you can just watch that 10 mins clips instead of whole movie.

After two weeks of serious topics in a row, thanks to Leon, here finally comes a casual topic – movies!

The Last Emperor won Oscar Best Picture in 1988. I guess I watched it the first time in schooldays. The tone of the movie was dark and heavy; It demonstrated how helpless and powerless a person could be, even as an emperor, and how he was ruthlessly steamrolled by fast-moving world. I went for its music and bought original soundtracks. It was still one of my favorite film CD’s. I however still don't really enjoy it today because it is too desperate to entertain.

橫道世之介, on the contrary, seems easier to approach. It was set against the backdrop of college life in a metropolis. Plot surrounds young love and friendship, dreams of future and passion. It’s something that most audience could relate to, bringing some sense of deja vu. The theme is light-hearted; people might smile throughout the movie, but end up with a light dose of sadness. There is something in it to reflect and digest.

After today's meeting, I patiently watched the second half of the Japanese movie, and all of a sudden, out of blue, the movie ends.

And then I watched the two video clips Leon provided. The first clip on Facebook is much better than the second one on Youtube, which is too long and portrays the movie in a shallow way. (I only watched half of it.)

People say Japanese are very good at this kind of 純愛 movies, even though I understand this movie can not be categorized as one of those ,and is much more than that.

After watching the whole movie and after today's discussion, I think I finally get the point of this movie. The boy is so pure, so innocent, not judgemental, sincerely caring to friends, doesn't care much about money, that thoese people who ever met him in life are impressed by him and occasionally remember him. Maybe the director of this movie wants us to reflect on our true kindness nature as a human being.

Just finished the movie. Yes, I like this Japanese movie, I can easily relate to the movie because it reflects pieces of my close memory & part of me. It reminds something and the feeling that I have long forgotten. So, thanks for introducing the movie which enabling the sour-sweet sentiment again.
