This is Miller, your host for the meeting on 5/11.
It's my honor to host again.
In Taipei city, you can see more and more Tesla moving on the road.
Are you interested to switch from traditional gasoline-powered cars to EVs?
Do you know what will be changed when electric vehicles emerge in large numbers?
We want to discuss the impact of EVs in session 1 and energy policy in session 2.

Here are some facts of EVs.
1.The EVs can save the climate and our lives.
The largest source of climate pollution in the United States is transportation.
To solve the climate crisis, we need to make the vehicles on the roads as clean as possible.
As the emission from cars and trucks reduced, it makes better condition for our health.
2.The EVs have a smaller carbon footprint than gasoline-powered cars, no matter where your electricity comes from.
Because electric vehicles are more efficient in converting energy to power cars and trucks,
electricity across the board is cleaner and cheaper as a fuel for vehicles, even when that electricity comes from the dirtiest grid.
3.Low maintenance needs.
Because electric vehicles don’t have as many components as gasoline-powered cars that need replacing, less maintenance is necessary.
Electric vehicles also generally last longer than their gasoline-powered counterparts because of less wear and tear.
4.Finding charging stations can be challenging and charging can take a while.
Even though President Biden has set a goal of building 500,000 new public chargers by 2030, but it's still a challenge to find charging stations on a long-distance road trip.
Adding gas to a fuel tank doesn't take much longer than 5 minutes, whereas recharging an electric vehicle can take more than 15 minutes.

Session 1:
Q1. Do you ever hear the driving experience of EV from your relatives or friends and how is it? Please share with your table mates.
Q2. If the cost to shop an EV is approaching the traditional one in near future, would you choose switching to an EV? Why or why not.
Q3. As your imagination, what will be changed when electric vehicles emerge in large numbers?
Q4. The EV will be the next brilliant industry in the world, do you see any chance of Taiwan?

Session 2:
Taiwan government set a target that power can mix of 20 percent renewables, 50 percent natural gas, and 30 percent coal by 2025,
as well as recent amendments to the Electricity Act and Renewable Energy Development Act.
The actions to create more power are usually in dilemma.
When the government planned to expand LNG(Liquefied Natural Gas) power plant in TaiTam(桃園市觀音區大潭里), it's inevitable to face the environmental issues.
Let's have brainstorming together to think out of the box.
Hopefully, we can make some feasible ideas.

Q1. Do you think the energy policy of Taiwan ready to handle this surge of new electric vehicles? Why and why not.

The idea and experiment of EV, as far as I can recall, seemed to start decades ago. Remember National Tsing Hua University EV testing? If my memory serves me right, that started ages ago!

Why does it seem that the EV finally get its turn to be the major player in the industry? Personally, I don’t think EV alone would make that much difference, it is likely because the combination of EV and AV (autonomous vehicles) is creating the revolution. Their impact is more than just in transportation industry.

The old style of mechanic driven product development in automobile industry is shifting to a system-based architecture, combining systems, hardware and software. The collaboration of social responsibility, law requirement catching-up, energy infrastructure upgrade, in addition to the innovation of technology in AI and automation, is happening to make the revolution more foreseeable. Because of the scale of this collaboration, which involves in many players both in public and private sectors, many of us think the revolution would be quite influential in the history.

Yes, it's an unprecedented revolution.
The steam engine opened the first industrial revolution in 1760s, and the internal combustion engine opened the second industrial revolution in 1880s. Maybe the Electric Vehicles will unveil another meaningful industrial revolution in near future.

Thanks for Rock's information. There are really not many different functions between gas cars and electric vehicles. But the electric vehicles will raise some potential needs, like some families would choose to set up the power storage to accelerate the charging process. Then the demand to produce power will follow it immediately. In near future, we can see the industries of power generation will prosper for a while. Wow, Rock, you are challenging this topic, how dare you! Haha....just joking.

In the future when my motorbike is broken, I may consider to buy a gogoro. My wife's younger sister owns one. I am happy to see more and more Tesla and gogoro on the streets.

Rock, it is a good idea to share cars, instead of owning one. But how can it be realized so fast, in "10 years", as you claimed. Please provide some reasons to convince me. Thanks
