Burnout is a psychological syndrome occurring from prolonged chronic job stress. The three key symptoms of burnout are exhaustion, cynicism & detachment and lack of accomplishment.

Here is where you can ask yourself some questions.
- Do you drag yourself out of bed to get work in the morning?
- Are you so tired that you cannot do anything after work?
- Do you feel like you can never catch up on your to-do list?
- Do you have difficulty on controlling emotions (e.g. short temper)
- Did you develop a negative outlook on work? It can include a negative attitude, loss of enjoyment, isolation from colleagues, feeling disconnected from others and your environment or increased conflict with others.
- Do you feel you cannot get any help or recognition from your boss?
- Do you not take good care of yourself?
If you have the most above symptoms, you may be experiencing burnout.

Here are ways to prevent or cope with burnout.

1. Changing work patterns
Recent studies shows that a main cause of burnout and stress is due to long hours of work. You can try working less hours, taking more breaks, avoid doing overtime, and invest more time into your personal life
However, sometimes you cannot afford to adjust your work pattern. You can find other ways to reduce your stress.

2.Create social support
Social support is one of the most important coping strategies. You can discuss your stress with your colleagues, family and friends that can help them to understand what you are going through. You can make a plan to help gain back control of your work-life balance.

3.Relaxation
You can try to focus on yourself and develop relaxation strategy. This can include learning breathing, trying out meditation or Yoga, or discovering a love for music and art therapy.
