Dear friends,

So it's that time of the year again—full of cheer and holiday spirit, or with a "Thank goodness, the year's over!" sigh of relief?

Would 2021 mark in history as just "the second year into the Covid-19 Pandemic," or would it stand on its own as a year of major changes and achievements?

In the midst of so much uncertainty and more than our share of "new normals," let's look back on the year around the world as well as into our personal journey.

We hope to cover (time permitting):

➤ The Pandemic
➤ Climate Change
➤ Political Upheaval
➤ The Great Resignation
➤ Supply Chain Chaos
➤ Crypto and NFTs
➤ Social Media and Cancel Culture
➤ Taiwan

➤ The Words of the Year

📌 The Idiom Blast!

We haven't done our idiom practice for a while now. Here's a very merry list of "Christmas" idioms:

1. Christmas came early this year

This idiom is used when something really good happens but it was completely unexpected.

"We've hit our sales targets ahead of time. Christmas has come early this year!"

2. Don’t be left out in the cold

To be left out in the cold can mean to be forgotten or left out.

"Make sure you’re on top of the project. Don’t be left out in the cold."

3. Skating on thin ice

You are said to be skating on thin ice when you place yourself in a precarious situation that may have disastrous consequences.

"He was skating on thin ice when he accused his boss of lying."

4. Be there with bells on

Often said as an enthusiastic response to an invitation, meaning you will gladly attend.

"Are you coming to my birthday party?"
"I'll be there with bells on."

5. Snowball effect

A snowball effect refers to a relatively insignificant situation that rapidly gains momentum, akin to a snowball increasing in size as it rolls down a hill. It can also impact other events, thus having a knock-on effect.

"Rumors started to have a snowball effect on the company."
