2/12 (Sat.) Is Negative Energy Another Good Choice? (Host: Jerry)

文章 jerryozoz »

Hello, I'm Jerry. I usually only host once a year. However, luckily I am the host for the very first Saturday this year. Maybe, this is my first and last hosting in 2022 =) I hope to bring a relaxed topic after a week everyone went back to the job reluctantly. The first session is going to discuss negative energy. And in the second session, we will watch some short videos together.

[Session 1] Is Negative Energy Another Good Choice?
I think most people are more familiar with "positive thinking". Here, I would like to discuss "Let’s Get Some Negative Energy來點負能量." I think it's a kind of subculture in Taiwan. Actually, it doesn't really teach you to think in a negative way or to criticize “positive thinking.” It's more like to think from a different viewpoint in a humorous way. Most of the sentences when we mentioned "Let’s Get Some Negative Energy" make us laugh and feel relaxed. Particularly, as the following link https://www.newsweek.com/2016/09/23/pos ... 98447.html warns that sometimes it makes people feel pressured to be pushed to always think in a positive way.

Actually I am not sure if there is a best identification to introduce "Let’s Get Some Negative Energy" So I will just show you some examples from https://www.facebook.com/NeEnergy, and post some below. You can find more sentences on this facebook page. Hope you will enjoy them.

Q1: Share your favorite "Let’s Get Some Negative Energy" sentences.
Q2: Do you think "Let’s Get Some Negative Energy" is kind of negative thinking? Or is it an alternative positive thinking?
Q3: When you are in difficulty, which one do you prefer, positive thinking or humorous negative energy? Why?
Q4. Vote Q1 sentences for your table and try to translate them to English.

[Session 2] Short Videos Sharing
For testing the effect of the new and bigger white board with a projector, in session 2, I hope everyone can prepare one of your favorite short videos. I will play it with the projector and you can share why it's your favorite one. The demo video below "Year in Search 2011" is one of my favorite videos and I watched it maybe more than 10 times. Actually, Google makes review videos every year for more than a decade and I really love the 2011 one. I think most of us learned a lot from life experience. We have different incidents no matter whether they are happy or sad each year. Sometimes we even didn’t understand why they happened to us or sometimes we were reluctant to accept them. I think the video reminds us that when a new year comes, we still need to review the past year, and it will help us grow up.

Please prepare a video link for session 2
1. Share your favorite video, or the video makes you feel impressive, or there’s something meaningful to you.
2. About 3-mins long video and not exceeding 5 mins.
3. Share with others the reason why you picked this video.

When googling the having-some-negative-energy-daily subculture of Taiwan, I found its interesting similarity to the Sang subculture (喪/躺平文化) in China.

Both subcultures use self-mockery or self-deprecation in a witty and ironical way to quietly protest societies’ mainstream values. While the negative-energy subculture in Taiwan is against the pursue of optimism and positiveness, the Sang subculture swings against the relentless tide of pursuing traditional notion of success. In either case, advocates are trying to take back some power, admitting that sometimes they just can’t make it.
