7/19 (Tue.) What is Net Zero and what will happen in our life? (Host: Miller)

文章 miller »

Our government announced the strategy to reach Net Zero in Taiwan in March 2022.
Therefore, TaiPower raised the price of electricity immediately after the strategy.
In the coming decades, some things will change and affect our life continuously.

The UK hosted the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties(COP26) in Glasgow from 31 October to 13 November 2021.
The COP26 summit brought parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
More than 200 countries joined this meeting and some key points were agreed upon.
1. Recognizing the emergency.
2. Accelerating action.
3. Moving away from fossil fuels.
4. Delivering on climate finance.
5. Stepping up support for adaptation.
6. Completing the Paris rulebook.
7. Focusing on loss & damage.
Many international majors are starting to follow the outcome of COP26 by advocating their suppliers join together.
Lots of manufacturers in Taiwan are looking for a solution to meet these requirements from the international majors.
One example is TSMC chose to buy almost all green energy of Taiwan's wind power from Orsted(沃旭能源).
Another one is the recycling companies scramble to buy the used materials to make Green Products.
Compare with COP25, it seems they are playing for keeps this time.
Do you believe we can make it this time?
Just come to join us and share your opinions.

1. According to the report of COP26, life would be wonderful by 2050 if we take action to reach Net Zero.
The unprecedented challenge needs people over the world to cooperate. It needs people to sacrifice some benefits to reach the goal.
Who should take most of the responsibility dealing with this problem? Would you accept to take some effort and then enjoy the outcome?
2. Comparing the two charts as followings, it seems a more population brings more carbon emissions.

4. Do you get any ideas to suggest to our government on the Net Zero policy?
