7/8 (Sat.) The Gap and the Gain (Host: Mandy)

文章 mandy chen »

Hi everyone, long time no see haha

Today we are going to discuss about the book “The Gap and the Gain”. Since the concept is very easy to understand; therefore it’s totally fine if you haven’t read the book before the meeting:)

Nonetheless, you can still have a quick review about this book with the following references:

Here is the clear description regarding the Gap and the Gain in the first article:
The Gap Mindset is when we focus on what we lack, what we haven’t achieved, and what we need to improve. We constantly compare ourselves to others and measure our success by how far we are from our ideal state. This mindset can be demotivating and lead to feelings of inadequacy and frustration.

On the other hand, the Gain Mindset is when we focus on progress and growth. We acknowledge and celebrate our achievements, no matter how small, and use them as fuel to keep moving forward. We are grateful for what we have and see our challenges as opportunities to learn and improve.
Session 1

1. Have you noticed any differences in yourself compared to last year? For example, now you may be learning something that you didn't know last year or trying things that you were afraid to try before. Share your experience with us.
2. Let’s move the timeline to the past three months. What are the Gains you've had in the past three months? You can share your experience in different aspects (e.g. work, relationship, self-learning ) with us.
3. Are you used to value more Gaps or Gains in your life? For example, now you earn less money than others, you focus more on “I need to earn more money like others..’’or you put emphasis on "although I earn less now, but I can have more time to accompany with my family”.
4. Have you ever transformed the experience from a Gap to a Gain? Share your experience with us.

Session 2

1. According to the author, spending more time on social media makes it easier to fall into the Gap. Do you agree that the social media let us easily fall into the Gap? What do you think?
2. According to the book, 1 hour before going to bed is very important. It not only influences how you end your day, but also determines the direction of your life. How do you usually spend the time before you sleep?
3. According to the book, one useful tip to stop comparing yourself with others and falling into the gap is to practice gratitude every day/week. Please share one to three things you are grateful for this week.
