1/6 (Sat.) It's all Generative AI’s fault! (Host:Stephen)

文章 stephen185 »

Traditional artificial intelligence (AI) relies on rule-based systems and manual programming, excelling in specific, well-defined tasks but lacking adaptability. In contrast, generative AI uses machine learning to learn patterns from data, enabling adaptability and versatility in handling a broader range of tasks, including creative content generation.

The year 2023 marked the widespread incorporation of generative AI into our daily lives. In the beginning, many people used theses AI tools out of curiosity or for entertainment. Now, people turn to generative AI to seek assistance in their studies, ask for advices, or use it to find or synthesize information. Moreover, this technology is also being used for coding, as well as the creation of images, audios and videos. Further information is provided below for you to catch a glimpse of what generative AI is and will be capable of.
The versatility of this technology has expanded its role beyond the initial expectations, making it an integral part of diverse applications. Whether you like it or not, the comprehensive integration of generative AI into our everyday lives will be inevitable. Understanding the strengths and limitations of the technology is crucial for ensuring a responsible, respectful and productive use. After all, probably none of us would like to conclude with "It’s all generative AI’s fault!" at the end of the day.

Theme Song: The theme song is embedded in a special video made by the host and will be played at the end of the meeting.

Questions for Discussion
Session I
1. In the science fiction film, “Her”, the protagonist develops a deep emotional bond with an AI operating system. With the development of ChatGPT-empowered robots (like NEO in the video above), it’s only a matter of time before we bring this “cloud lover” to reality. And human-AI romances could become even more flourishing. What potential consequences do you think might arise from falling in love with AI robots?

2. Many human models and influencers have undergone cosmetic surgeries to catch the eyes of the audience, while the appearance of AI models can promptly adapt to the changing trend easily. Do you see that AI models will become common and find success on social media and even adult content platforms?

3. Although advanced chatbots as those on Character.AI, can be customized to be an ideal partner and simulate emotional responses to offer emotional support, the depth and complexity of human emotions and connections still remain challenging to replicate. What potential risks do you envision associated with excessive interaction with AI characters concerning one’s social life?

4. What’s your experience of interacting with influencers on social media? Do you believe AI influencers can effectively engage with audiences resembling a real person, or the lack of genuine experiences from physical interactions may hinder their connection with the followers?

Session II
5. ElevenLabs is a text to speech and AI voice generator, which can clone your voice given just one minute of your voice clip. And with the power of diffusion model and efficient pose guider, a reference image of yours can be converted to an animation. What verification methods can you come up with to address potential fraud by leveraging these AI technologies?

6. Recently in Germany, a Lutheran church hosted an AI-generated service in which ChatGPT, personified by an avatar of a bearded man on a screen above the altar, led most of the activities. What is your opinion about this experimental service? Do you believe that the integration of AI into religious practices will be prevailing?

7. Artificial intelligence (AI) is already being used in health care. AI can look for patterns in medical images to help diagnose disease. Would you consider seeing an AI doctor to avoid waiting for weeks or even months if it proves to be comparable to a human doctor? What concerns do you have if you choose not to?

8. Are there any specific professions that you believe will not or should not be replaced by artificial intelligence?

2. We suggest that participants read the articles and think about the questions in advance.
3. Newcomers should prepare a two-to-three minute self-introduction in English to deliver when called upon by the host before the start of the discussion. The host may also ask you to give brief feedback about the meeting at the conclusion of the meeting.
4. We conduct the entire meeting in English. All participants should have at least moderate English-conversation skills and be able to articulate your ideas for each discussion question.
5. We welcome newcomers and other guests to attend the meetings and join the discussion freely for two times. After that, we hope you will consider becoming a YoYo English Club member. We charge a NT$1500 lifetime membership fee, or NT$1000 for students.

Three laws of robotics by Isaac Asimov
(1) a robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm;
(2) a robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law;
(3) a robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Following that, here comes the laws of AI by me 8)
1. AI may not hurt a human's feelings or allow a human's feeling being to come to harm
2... your turn
In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.

In fact, European Parliament just reached a provisional agreement with the Council on an AI Act in early December, 2023. It is probably the world’s first regulation on AI. Certain applications of AI are prohibited due to their potential threats to citizens’ rights and democracy. The banned applications include:

* biometric categorisation systems that use sensitive characteristics (e.g. political, religious, philosophical beliefs, sexual orientation, race);
* untargeted scraping of facial images from the internet or CCTV footage to create facial recognition databases;
* emotion recognition in the workplace and educational institutions;
* social scoring based on social behaviour or personal characteristics;
* AI systems that manipulate human behaviour to circumvent their free will;
* AI used to exploit the vulnerabilities of people (due to their age, disability, social or economic situation).

To become EU law, the agreed text has to be formally adopted by both Parliament and Council in the next meeting.

No matter what rules and regulations put on AI and its build up, who can assure those who creat AI will abide by them!? In the end, it will be just like the media, or all other laws that never stop people from committing crimes I would say.

Humans never learn until it's too late, and It's always too late to regret. Right, I'm a cynic, and a sceptic as well. 🤣
i might be a cynic and, a sceptic as well but, i'm definitely not a bad person!!

To answer the question asked in the meeting:
The picture of the young lady shown on the cover page of the theme song video-"DREAM LOVER" is created with an AI tool called “WOMBO Dream”(https://dream.ai/create).
