Welcome everyone to today’s English reading and discussion session! Recently, the Chinese Taipei Table Tennis Association has been in the news due to some controversies. This gives us a great opportunity to explore deeper questions about athletes and sports.
Let’s start by sharing what we know about the recent controversy, then move on to broader issues related to sports ethics and policies. Feel free to share your opinions, and focus on the questions that your team members are most interested in.
Session 1:
1. What is the recent controversy involving the Chinese Taipei Table Tennis Association (CTTTA)? (If you know, please share it with your teammates.) Do you think the outcome of the issue met most people’s expectations? Why or why not?
2. Do you think athletes should have the right to refuse to represent the nation in national or international competitions? Why?
3. How can we help sports associations become true supporters of athletes, rather than sources of political controversy?
4. In your opinion, how should our sports policy strike a balance between "elite sports" and "sports for all"?
Session2
5. Do you know the difference between sportsmanship and gamesmanship? Please share your thoughts.
6. Between doping and match-fixing, which do you think is more unacceptable? How would you compare their impacts?
7. We may prohibit athletes from betting on their own games, but should we also prohibit them from betting on other games or sports? Why or why not?
8. How can sports associations and the public provide better support for athletes’ mental health, especially when they face controversy or pressure?
