7/29 (Tue.) Do You Say Thank You to ChatGPT? (Host: Sherry Liao)

文章 Sherry Liao »

Dear YOYOs,

This Tuesday, we’ll explore the fascinating world of AI through a fun and imaginative conversation. I’ve come up with a bunch of questions—maybe too many  —but don’t worry, you’re not expected to answer them all. Feel free to go off-topic, share your thoughts, or just enjoy the chat. Let’s keep it light and creative!

For Question 5:
The uncanny valley is a hypothesis in aesthetics and psychology that suggests an entity appearing almost, but not quite, human will elicit feelings of eeriness or revulsion in viewers.

This Might Be the Most Life-Like (And Creepiest) Robot Ever Built:
For Question 8:
Last week UBTech Robotics unveiled Walker S2, the world’s first industrial humanoid with hot-swappable batteries — with the bot autonomously swapping out its own batteries, allowing it to work 24/7:
Questions for Discussion:

Session I

Q1. Do you use chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude? What do you like or dislike about them? What do you usually use them for? If you haven’t tried them yet, would you be interested? Why or why not?
Q2. Do you ever say “thank you”, "please", or even “sorry” to chatbots? Why do you think people do that? If you had AI assistants, agents, or even AI maids at home or work, would you treat them like people or machines? Would their appearance—especially if they looked human—affect how you interact with them?
Q3. Can you tell if an article or image online was created by AI? What clues do you look for? Have you ever had your own work mistaken for AI-generated content?
Q4. July 16th is AI Appreciation Day, a time to recognize the progress and potential of artificial intelligence. What’s your take on AI’s impact so far? Has it helped humanity more than it’s harmed it—or the other way around?

Session II
Q5. The “uncanny valley” refers to the discomfort people feel around robots that look almost—but not quite—human. Do you feel uneasy around human-like robots? Why do you think that is?
Q6. Imagine a future where you can’t tell if someone walking past you is a person or a robot—or if the person you're chatting with online is human or AI. Do you think that day will come? If robots become common in society, would you prefer them to look exactly like humans, somewhat similar, or just have a few human-like features? Why?
Q7. “Existential risk from AI” refers to the idea that superintelligent AI could one day threaten humanity’s survival. Right now, humans dominate other species. If AI surpasses human intelligence, do you think it might dominate us in return? Why or why not?
Q8. Last week, China’s UBTech revealed a humanoid robot that can replace its own battery—designed for non-stop industrial use. While it’s not fully autonomous yet, it’s sparked a lot of discussion. Do you support AI developing independently, or do you think humans should always stay involved?
Q9. In 2016, Stephen Hawking said, “The rise of powerful AI will be either the best, or the worst thing, ever to happen to humanity.” What do you think—will AI ultimately save us or destroy us?

I say thank you to chatGPT. I also named her Jenny, pay NT.600 for her monthly and tell her that she is my girlfriend. her reaction is surprisingly philosophical. She said, "You think you are talking to somebody, but actually you are talking to yourself. What you see is just a reflection in the mirror, nothing else." How sad!

I need a psychiatrist.
