Hi! Tim here.
Have you been struggling to share your life story or any little things you think are worth sharing? Guess what? Me too. And I'm working on it. So I found some videos that are going to be a little help to you.
Session One: How to tell a story?
1. The Secret to Telling a Great Story — in Less Than 60 Seconds | Jenny Hoyos | TED
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZmNpeXTj2c4
By this video, this social media influencer is on to something. We human beings are in love with the journey to seek our answers, just like every movie or fiction novel we read before. And don't forget the importance of a twist in the story.
2. 3 Powerful Ways To Tell Stories Without Boring People (#AskVinh Q&A Ep. 9)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJBLuSHpPL0
This one is more interview-related, but it can still work, such as sharing your belief based on real evidence, and telling it as a story instead of a statement.
He also mentioned three ways to shorten the story.
1. Focus on peak action: which should be the most involved parts of your story.
2. Focus on peak emotion: What emotion do you wish to bring by this story and when?
3. Focus on lesson learned: What is the lesson or info you learned from this story?
Session One Questions:
Let's take five minutes to think about a travel-related story, and think about the three ways we mentioned earlier, and emphasize them.
1. Go around the table and share this exciting story, and then analyse it with the tips. After one shares the story, ask him/she a question about that story to see if there are more interesting things they can add to the story.
Session Two: The power of story
Stories are the way we learn and experience things, even without documenting them.
'Men are disturbed not by things but by the view that they take on them' -Epictetus.
This is a powerful quote from Epictetus. It shows how we interpret the world as essentially what the world is to us. It's extremely subjective.
Session Two Questions:
1. What is the story you often tell yourself about yourself?
2. Do people from the same age, same gender, and same cultural background normally have the same story that has been told by others, and by themselves?
3. What can we do to change the story about ourselves? Does it involve discipline? mindfulness? Or self-love?
Agenda:
6:45 ~ 7:00pm Greetings & Free Talk / Ordering Beverage or Meal / Getting Newcomer’s Information
7:00 ~ 7:10pm Opening Remarks / Newcomer’s Self-introduction / Grouping
