In recent years, photo-editing apps like Meitu have become a daily part of life for many women in China and across Asia. Even young and naturally beautiful women often feel uncomfortable posting unedited photos of themselves. This phenomenon raises interesting questions about self-image, confidence, and how social media shapes the way we present ourselves to others. Today, let’s explore this topic together.

Session 1
1. Why do people want to edit their photos? Is it mainly to please themselves or to impress others?
2. Do heavily edited photos make someone appear “less authentic”?
3. If you notice that a friend edits their photos a lot, how would you feel about it?
4. Does photo-editing help build confidence, or does it actually harm self-esteem in the long run?
Session 2
5. Are there cultural differences (e.g., East vs. West) in how people view photo-editing?
6. Does the number of “likes” and comments on social media increase people’s dependence on editing apps?
7. Do you personally edit your photos? If so, how much do you usually change?
8. Which do you value more: showing your natural self or showing an idealized version of yourself? Why?
