Natasha Bedingfield

Natasha Bedingfield

Single

Ah yeah that’s right
All you single people out there
This is for you
Yeah

Verse 1:
I’m not waitin' around for a man to save me
(Cos I’m happy where I am)
Don’t depend on a guy to validate me
(No no)
I don’t need to be anyone's baby
(Is that so hard to understand?)
No I don’t need another half to make me, whole

Make your move if you want doesn’t mean I will or won’t
I’m free to make my mind up you either got it or you don’t

Chorus:
This is my current single status
My declaration of independence
There’s no way I’m tradin' places
Right now a star's in the ascendant

I’m single
(Right now)
That’s how I wanna be
(2 times)

Yeah, uh huh, that’s right

Verse 2:-
Don’t need to be on somebody’s arm to look good
(I like who I am)
I’m not saying I don’t wanna fall in love cause I would
I’m not gonna get hooked up just cause you say I should
(Can’t romance on demand)
I’m gonna wait so I’m sorry if you misunderstood

Chorus:
This is my current single status
My declaration of independence
There’s no way I’m tradin' places
Right now a star's in the ascendant

I’m single
(Right now)
That’s how I wanna be
(3 times)
I’m single, oh oh ooh

Verse 3:
Everything in its right time
Everything in its right place
I know I'll settle down one day
But 'til then I like it this way...
It’s my way
Eh, I like it this way, eh

Make your move if you want doesn’t mean I will or won’t
I’m free to make my mind up you either got it or you don’t
'Til then I’m single

Chorus:
This is my current single status
My declaration of independence (Single)
There’s no way I’m tradin' places
Right now a star's in the ascendant (Ooh)

This is my current single status
My declaration of independence
There’s no way I’m tradin' places (Right now a star)
Right now a star's in the ascendant

I’m single
(Right now)
That’s how I wanna be
(3 times)

Unwritten

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you, open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, Oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines (yeah yeah)
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way (oh oh)

Staring at the blank page before you, open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Staring at the blank page before you, open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance

Release your inhibitions

We're All Mad

Oh, I think the lady did protest too much
She wouldn't take the flower from my hand
She only saw the shadow of my circumstance
Perception can describe what makes a man

I didn't mean to interrupt your stride
But a rose was all I had to give
Sometimes beauty isn't recognised
When it contrasts with what you feel inside

Who's to say the darkened clouds must lead to rain
Who's to say the problems should just go away
Who's to point a finger at what's not understood

Because, we're all mad in our own way
Colours paint the grey away
Different people all the same
Each reveals the meaning
We're all mad in our own way
Fill the sky with different shades
Read the story on each page
Each reveals the meaning

Each reveals the meaning

Sometimes I think I over analyse
As if I cant control the time and place
Life isn't something you try on for size
You can't love without the give and take

Who's to say the darkened clouds must lead to rain
Who's to say the problems should just go away
Who's to point a finger at what's not understood

Because, we're all mad in our own way
Colours paint the grey away
Different people all the same
Each reveals the meaning
We're all mad in our own way
Fill the sky with different shades
Read the story on each page
Each reveals the meaning

We're all mad in our own way
Colours fade the grey away
Different people all the same
Each reveals the meaning
We're all mad in our own way
Fill the sky with different shades
Read the story on each page
Each reveals the meaning

Oh, each reveals the meaning
Oh oh oh yeah, oh

We're all mad in our own way
Colours fade the grey away
Different people all the same
Each reveals the meaning
We're all mad in our own way
Fill the sky with different shades
Read the story on each page
Each reveals the meaning

We're all mad in our own way
Colours paint the grey away
Different people all the same
Each reveals the meaning
We're all mad in our own way
Fill the sky with different shades
Read the story on each page
Each reveals the meaning

That must be the secret why you are so productive and level-headed.
If all the Yoyo members managed to remain single for 4 years, and coordinate our concerted efforts a little better. Who knows what we can accomplish? Nobel Prize, cure for cancer, or a website that worth a few billions...

Any song that shows vulnerability are destined to be identified with by those who are in the limbo. In this day and age, who isn't in the limbo one way or another?

Speaking of 才女 and songs that show vulnerabilities, this one is pretty good.

haha......"productive and level-headed" eh?~.... I can't help but wonder where
you got that idea.... If it's because I wrote a lot in my blog, well... I started writing
since 1996... many stuff I wrote back then were really crappy though. What you
see now in my blog are mostly writings from 2004 til now. Four years of blogging that
is; however, there's still not much work in it. I have to write and draw because that's
the best way to solve my 精神耗弱 problems haha~ I'm happy/peaceful when I write, or draw.
So.... uh.... maybe YOYOs don't need to follow my footprints while everyone here can still
contribute the best of himself. A little time, a little effort, a little chat's even warm enough
to lighten up this place~

oh btw, thanks for sharing that video. I enjoyed it, sitting back in my chair, feeling 100
percent released from tension. :)

If squeaky wheel gets the grease, than perhaps this statement "已經超過四年沒有交男友" is a good start. Unless you consider that as a badge of honor. It would be nice to have a humane law stating that those without a boyfriend or girlfriend for the longest time has the right to pick and choose before everybody else.
I am not abandoning Yoyo, I am just dancing slowly away from it.

Nope, I wouldn't say it's an honor to remain single as long as possible or
something like not seeing anybody for over a hundred years.

I totally agree to your idea of setting up a law especially for singles,
but in a little different way. I'd say for those who stay single for their whole lives,
get to hold a ceremony declaring their statement of being single. Guests invited to
the ceremony shall bring gifts (or cash in a red envelope in Chinese culture) as a
blessing to the single.

This is like a wedding, but that the person is married to himself/herself, just like
what Carrie did in TV series "Sex And The City (Season 6) ". After the theft of her
extremely expensive high heels at her friend's babyshower party, however not
receiving any comfort nor apology from that friend, she felt disappointed at single
people's always (well, nearly always) being kind of robbed every time there's
a somebody-else's marriage to celebrate. Why's that? Why can't the singles be blessed?
Why can't the singles get equal attention from others?...Therefore she wrote a bunch of
invitation cards to her acquaintances, making the announcement of marrying herself.
She got a pair of brand new high heels exactly the same with the ones she lost at the
party before. Yeah, I wish there were a law like I thought. My heart bleeds whenever I
sent out another red envelope, not to mention the yearly routine we have on New Year's Eve.
It's like I'm saving money partly for those red envelopes to send.

When reality can not be changed, often one changes the perception of reality as the last resort. Which are often easier said than done. There are books about how great it is being single, which can be true to a certain degree, but only to a certain degree.

Why are there so many reluctant singles? Would it be naive to believe that the problem eventually solves itself? Perhaps the root of the problem is "Massive Mutual Rejection" and does this song even makes a dent?

The song "Let's fall in love" can only be taken at its face value.
A little encouragement goes a long way.
Too much encouragement, goes awry

All the happy singles knows that time is not on their side.
Like all the airplanes waiting for the control tower's instruction to land.
All landings need to be perfect or nearly perfect. Otherwise you might as while stay afloat forever.
That is the resounding attitude.
But, sooner or later both altitude and attitude will have to take a nose dive.
