I asked a foreigner about the English of 老花眼,and he just say "far-sighted". Maybe there are many ways to say the same thing.

Besides, if I want to talk about my near-sighted eyes, what can I say?
500 degrees?

I can assure you the foreigner is wrong as 老花眼(presbyopia) is different from 遠視眼(hypermetropia).

Besides, In English, the opticians usually do not use "degrees" to describe the power of the lens.
By the way, 散光 in English is astigmatism.

After digging around, this is what I found in Yahoo knowledge (Taiwan)

I am short-sighted with one diopter. 或是 I am near-sighted with one diopter.

I am long-sighted with one diopter. 或是 I am far-sighted with one diopter.

此時"我近視一百度"您可以說: I have 1 diopter short-sightness.或是I have 1 diopter near-sightness.
而"我遠視一百度",您則必須說: I have 1 diopter long-sightness.或是I have 1 diopter far-sightness.了

according to the explanation above i guess that's the differences between oral English and medical term. in medical, the causes might not the same in presbyopia and hypermetropia but the version conditions are quite the same that they both can see better for distant object than for near object. thus, when people talking about their version condition they might just say they are nearsighted or farsighted(longsighted), and of course you might also explain that's because your age or some other abnormal reasons lo.

Partly due to the name of a very famous TV show, the Snellen Fractioin system of describing vision or visual acuity is more commonly known. To have 20/20 vision means that when you stand 20 feet away from the chart you can see what the "normal" human being can see (a majority of people in the population can see what you see at 20 feet. (In metric, the standard is 6 meters and it's called 6/6 vision). Anyone with vision worse than 20/200 that cannot be improved with corrective lenses is considered legally blind.
