3. I want the thing to shine. 其實有代表the thing不一定會發亮 而只是你要the thing 可以發亮

能將形容詞放在名詞後面形容或是修飾的情況, 只有 不定代名詞 如: something/someone/anyone……才是後面接形容詞用後位修飾。

I want the thing which shines.
I want the shining thing.
I want something shining

1. Let me have an example here.
"I don't like children who steal."
Can we put it "I don't like children who is stealing"?
Then after we take "who is" off, it becomes "I don't like children stealing."
It looks all right to me.

Besides,
according to 文馨活用英漢辭典, the word "want" does use the patterns V + object + V-ing and Subject + Verb + Object + p.
I don't want others interrupting.
I want the job done at once.

2. Yes, there are cases that you can put an adjective after a noun (otherr than something/anything/someone/anyone).
A. America proper, court marshall, knight errant, attourney general, president elect, just to name a few.
B. In the sentence pattern Subject + Verb + Object + Complement, "Complement" can be a noun or an adjective.
I want my coffee hot.
The police want to nab the murderer dead or alive.

不過就" I want the thing which shines = I want the thing shining"這個, 即使改成I want the thing (which is) shining. 我還是覺得不太對....
我想那是因為你用了want這個動詞! want是 想要(v.) 某人/物(o.) 做~事(o.c)
因為想要人/物做事情 不應該"正在發生"，所以不太可能會有這樣的句型
我想對於WANT而言~~ O.頂多可以用to V.R或是(to be) P.P來修飾......
對其他不完全不及物動詞 也許ok吧.... 我想~~

All right, let me have another example.
The family of the murdered victim want the murderer dead. {The family of the murdered victimwant the murderer (to be setenced) dead.}
Is this OK?
