用樹狀圖概念聯結相關字的字典的確很酷.

我記得Wayne Chiang以前有推薦過一個具有類似概念的字典, 不過那個是要收費的, 這個則是免費的,

所以功能就沒那麼強, 例如點選某關聯字後不會自動變成以那個字為中心的樹狀圖, 還得重新輸入該字才行.

裡面我覺得最有用的是第一篇 Vocabulary Improvement: Considerations, Ways, and Means

裡面強調幾個觀念:

1. 英語字彙達70萬字, 在其中我們必須依照自己的興趣或需要, 篩選出需要認識

的單字. 並且進一步將這些單字區分為 主動使用的單字 與 被動認識的單字, 對於主動使用的單字,

使用單字卡將它連同包含它的句子記下, 背面寫下它的定義. 必須反覆背誦它且在寫作及會話中

反覆使用它 至少要使用它十次以上它才會變成我們自己的字彙. 對於被動認識的單字, 只需在閱讀

中可由前後文猜出或約略知道它的定義即可.

2. 避免使用現成的單字清單, 要建立個人化的單字庫


遺憾的是, 英文學了20年最近才領悟到這兩點, 走了不少冤枉路, 其中GRE考試也誤了我不少年...以為單字要那樣學...

Vocabulary takes years to develop. That part everybody knows.
One intersting aspect is that once you know a particular word exists,
for a brief period of time or longer you will notice that people do actually use that word quite often. That is to say that one should expect vocabulary memorization to be "naturally reinforced" If you are lucky.
