Sep. 11 has been an emotional day for most Americans, and the 10th anniversary was a particularly poignant one. As a New Yorker it really hits home for me. I spent the day watching tributes online and on TV with my friends. Although I happened to be in MI on that fateful day, the impact of that tragedy - and that of what the U.S. has done in response - remains with me till this day.
An insurance TV commercial tribute (by Spike Lee) is a standout among many, and it's based on a song from a few years back. I'll post both here. Don't worry too much about the lyrics - there're simply too many New York references. Just feel the pride and love that emanate from the song.
I have a sweatshirt from my Peace Action New York State group that says, "we will not forget", in three languages: English, Hebrew, and Arabic. It's saying that we won't forget people who have been killed, not just on 9/11, but also in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
