So, I would translate "chip away at" into Chinese as "削弱". is that good?

Kooper, thanks for sharing. This is good because we can learn something new without needing to read the whole article. Haha :D Please share more if you could

I would like to share one too

Trump-Khan Flap Puts Republicans in a Bind

Hi Michael, thanks for sharing another news headline. I happened to learn this phrase before. To put someone in a bind means to put them in a difficult situation.

Hillary Clinton Twists the Knife in Donald Trump’s Tax Proposals
turn/twist the knife (in the wound): to say something that makes someone more upset about a subject they are already unhappy about; to make somebody who is unhappy feel even more unhappy; to make a bad situation even worse. It is like "to rub salt into the wound" to me.

More "twist the knife" on news headlines:
Donald Trump twists the knife on Paul Ryan and John McCain
Donald Trump declined to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan and two Republican senators who face tough re-election bids, claiming on Tuesday that he's "not quite there yet."

Google twists the knife, asks for sanctions against Oracle attorney
The second Oracle v. Google trial drew to a close in May, when a jury found that Google's use of certain Java APIs wasn't a copyright infringement. But court filings from last week show that Google isn't done delivering punishment to Oracle, which started the litigation back in 2010. Google will be filing a motion for sanctions against Oracle and its law firm, Orrick, Sutcliffe & Herrington.

"Obama Condemns Trump in Full-Throated Pitch for Clinton"

-throated (in adjectives) having the type of throat mentioned http://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.c ... throat__40
ex: a deep-throated roar
ex: a blue-throated bird

The definition of full-throated is having a full, rich sound. http://www.yourdictionary.com/full-throated
When you scream with all of the power you have, this is an example of a scream that would be described as full-throated.

"Obama Condemns Trump in Full-Throated Pitch for Clinton"

I just realized that the most important word of the sentence is "pitch." See other news on similar speeches.

President Barack Obama Offers Full-Throated Pitch for Hillary Clinton
President Obama makes impassioned pitch for Hillary Clinton at Democratic convention

make a pitch for somebody: try to persuade people to support somebody http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/make+a+pitch+for

Divided Federal Reserve Is Inclined to Stand Pat

Guess what does the title mean?

Headline aside, there are some interesting expressions in the report. Let's also guess what they mean. :sun:

- It's a close call.
- You don't want to be behind the eight ball on this one, and I think it's time to raise rates.
- a quarter-percentage-point increase would be "a drop in the bucket"
- Inflation's stickiness at low levels removes pressure on the Fed to act pre-emptively to head off a surge in consumer prices
