Hi Sherry,Sherry Liao 寫:I have to admit that the topic is a bit tough to me. I am not familiar with the Guantanamo Bay event. Though I have read several related news, I still could not get the hang of it. So I switched the essay topic to "Women's rights". Hope I did not wander off the subject too much.
Thanks to your frequent use of the expression "get the hang of it" on the forum. I've got more acqaintanted with it and have put it in my word list. It actually reminds me of another similar expression "get the handle of sth." After looking up their definitions I realize there is a subtle difference between them. Here is what I got from dictionaries.
get the hang of a skill or activity = learn how to do it
get the handle of a subject, problem, or situation = to find a way to understand it
My idea is it might be better to use "get the handle of it" in this case. See if you agree.
