What does "making a depressing wall come to life" mean?Just JJ 寫:My summary:
... Some groups is doing for territory claiming, some for having fun regardless of the building and wall owners’ feeling, and some for making a depressing wall come to life.
You have explained that "get their hand on ..." means " to get possession of; acquire or obtain." However, according to the context, it still sounds strange to me. What do you think if we say "if any naïve people want to do the graffiti for the reason of taking time to get the hang of it"?Just JJ 寫:Therefore, it will bring on higher chance to connect to crime if any naïve people want to do the graffiti for the reason of taking time to get their hand on it.

I think "unprivileged" works here, though the meaning is different from "underprivileged".Just JJ 寫:Ivy, setting a timeframe can help us to have more time correct our grammar errors, and learn from each other.IVY 寫: The observer says the phenomenon of graffiti has its own historical background for unprivileged group to vent their rage
I am also the one who can’t meet the deadline,
just listened the first tem minutes
I will try to finish it tomorrow

Re: ISG 0426 Graffiti, Art?
No opinion on the grammar of your assignment. I just want to point out that lyrics should not be taken as a measure to learn grammar. There are too many errors in them.Just JJ
Some say love:
Some say love, it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
and you it's only seed.
不曉的我說明的夠不夠清楚,大家討論一下。
Take this one for example:
CHINESE DEMOCRACY
By Guns N' Roses
It don't really matter
Gonna find out for yourself
No it don't really matter
Gonna leave this thing to
Somebody else
......
See?
Re: ISG 0426 Graffiti, Art?
Sorry, I'm too busy these days. Below is my summary:
In Australia, many people (regardless of their ages) devote themselves to doing graffiti for expressing their own opinions, commenting the situations, occupying territory (as a gangster), beautifying environment or creating. To the authority, graffiti should be a big problem when they use others property to create their own works. A skilled graffiti doer is not only good at his art skill, but also good at his ability to hide and escape. Graffit has its own history which can be traced back to ancient Greek. For the graffiti doers, they also have their own rules to obey. As for graffiti, tagging, paste-up and stencil, they are quite similar for they all use the public space as their "canvas". From the perspective of socialism, since the private property doesn't exist, there should be nothing wrong in using other's building to do graffiti.

Thanks for choosing this topic, JJ.
I used to stare at tags on roller shutter doors of some unopened stores when walking on the streets, wondering who made those drawings and speculating about their mental conditions when they were doing the tagging. Maybe now I have a better understanding of it.

I don't think some brownie points to Sherry is a problem.Sherry Liao 寫:

The real problem is: " Considering our award for the winner is a free meal,
is losing weight still a top priority for females??"

Re: ISG 0426 Graffiti, Art?
I think it would be clearer if the sentence goes this way: The most controversial part of it is ...Sherry Liao 寫: Graffiti is the name of "works" made by marking, writing or drawing (or to be specific, by scrawling, scratching, scribbling, chalking, spray painting, or even stenciling) on public or private property, like a wall or door of a real estate or a train, to draw attention of the public, comment events or just have fun . The most controversial part is, in most cases, the unfetterred writers do not obtain permission from property owners. In that case, it may anger a lot of people and amounts to a crime.
I am not sure about this, but I get the impression that the comma should be removed since the AND after it doesn't connect two complete clauses.Sherry Liao 寫:Others assert that it is art; by doing so, it makes the city look more interesting or exuberant, and even inspire people to push against the oppressive and controlling frame of society.
I think it should be "work of art."Sherry Liao 寫:In no case should any graffiti be glamorized as a art of work if the creation is made from infringing on others' property-rights.
