Founded in February 2009, Intensive Study Group (ISG) – an affiliated group of YOYO English Club - have always been rather mysterious to most YOYO members (thanks to Toshi’s tolerance
), as it was restricted to only a select few. After trying it out for nearly one year, we think ISG has been mature enough to become open to every YOYO members. I would like to take the chance to introduce ISG to you. You’re welcomed to join us if interested in it.Why ISG?
Rather than replacing YOYO’s regular meetings - where you have countless chances to talk - ISG meetings are designed to supplement them with increased emphasis on English listening, writing, and reading.
Meeting Topics:
There are four topics and we will go through one topic a week. The topics will be discussed in turn. That’s, each topic will be revisited every five weeks. At the beginning of every season, topics can be reviewed and modified if needed.
1. Novel reading
a) Read roughly 100 pages before each gathering and finish a novel within four meetings (20 weeks).

2. Transcribing One-minute Speech
a) Host: Kooper
b) Material: NPR news, AmericanScience 1-minute Psych, etc.
c) Meeting Type: Skype meeting
d) Target Ability: Listening
3. Summary / Essay of a Newspaper / Magazine Column
a) Host: Ivy
b) Meeting Type: Skype meeting
c) Target Ability: Reading / Writing
4. Summary / Essay of a Video / Audio Speech
a) Host: Sherry
b) Material: TED, etc.
c) Meeting Type: Skype meeting
d) Target Ability: Listening / Writing
Skype Meeting Time: Sunday AM 7:00 – 8:00
Physical Meeting Time & Place: The first Friday of each month. PM6:30 – 9:00 at 丹堤濟南店(台北市濟南路3段25號)
How to be an ISG Member:
1. Be a YOYO member
2. Register with Kooper for at least one of the four topics
3. Attend every meeting on the topics you’ve registered for
4. Finish and post assignments before attending a meeting
5. Have a Skype account (Novel readers are exempt from the requirement)
