Dear ISG partners:
For this coming Sunday, I think of a new game: Speech Practice.
Please read this article, which is quite discussable, first.
http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/nhshealt ... 5438200.jp
Please prepare a 3-minute speech for expressing your opinion during our on-line meeting.
Because this is speech practice, be sure to form ideas in your mind.
You may write down something first but no manuscript is allowed during the on-line meeting.
A suggested simple speech outline is as below.
1. Clarify your stance. (Do you think marriage can make people fat or not, in general?)
2. State the reasons of your stance.
3. Examples or your experience.
4. Your advice or warning
5. Conclusion.
Implement some speech tips you know into your presentation.
After one's speech, each listener shall ask a question. Be ready.
Gavin

I excerpted a line from this article as below:
The study underpinning this story analysed data on several thousand heterosexual people in the US from adolescence "onwards" to establish the links between relationship status and obesity.
I'm curious about the function of "onwards", any suggestion??

The study made three waves of interview to each subject, and analyzed the association between obesity and romantic relationship status changes from wave II to wave III. In the first wave, the subjects were in grades 7-12, that is, they were in their adolescence at that time. I think that's why it said the study was on people from adolescence onwards.
from ... onwards: beginning at a particular time or age and continuing after that [Longman]
Ex.: from the 1980s onwards
