makeshift[a]: temporary and of low quality, but used because of a sudden need and nothing better is available

Ex: The refugees slept in makeshift tents at the side of the road.
Ex: Thousands of refugees are living in makeshift camps.
Ex: When we reached the river we found that the makeshift bridge had been swept away.
Ex: Using an old tree-trunk as a makeshift table, we ate our picnic.

Relief workers in Haiti have begun moving thousands of earthquake survivors to higher ground. More than a million people were left homeless by the January 12 earthquake. Many of them have been living in crowded makeshift camps, which every subjected to floods in the upcoming raining season. At least 7 shelters are considered to be at risk. The Haitian government says more than 300’000 people died in the quake, and hundreds of thousands survivors now face floods and landslides.

National elections are underway in Sudan, … (could be “for long away”, I’m not sure) the vote is expected to favor incumbent President Omar Al-Bashir, who came to power in a military coup, but Bashir anticipated the victory may be undermined by a livestrong competition. NPR xxx reports many in the political opposition are boycotted in the process.

Omar Al-Bashir voted Sunday at San Franciso in Khartum nearly army headquarters compound where he lives. Elections … big … for making statements on election day, so we did not speak … A long queue of army soldiers and police waited patiently to vote, but for many Sudanese, who have also waited 24 years to participate in multi-party elections, …. Most be sure stronger competitors have …. race, citing … ruling party. Bashir says …. complaining, because he is more popular than … International monitors are waiting to see the vote, but are worrying signs …

The last paragraph is hard for me, so I lost many parts. Can anyone help me out?

-Incumbent (a.) having an official position; currently in office
-coup (n.) a sudden, illegal and often violent, change of government
Ex: He seized power in a military coup in 1981.
-be subjected to (ph.) if someone or something is subjected to something, especially something bad, it is possible or likely that they will be affected by it:
Ex: All flights are subjected to delay.
I think it should be "be subject to sth" in the news.

Hi Jackson, I made a bit of modification:

Hi, Kooper and Ivy:
I revised some words further as below.
Kooper 寫:National elections are underway in Sudan, the long-awaited vote is expected to favor incumbent president Omar al-Bashir, who came to power in the military coup, but Bashir's anticipated victory may be undermined by a lack of strong competition. Election’s rules forbid candidates from making statements on election day, so he didn’t speak to the press. Along queue of army solders and polices waited patiently to vote, but for many Sudanese who have also waited 24 years to participate in multi-party elections the choices have dwindled. Most of Bashir’s strongest competitors have dropped out of the race, citing vote rigging on the part of the ruling party. But x says his opponents are complaining because he is more popular than they are. International monitors are witnessing the vote, but a worrying sign appears to be that indelible ink being used to mark people as having voted once isn’t so indelible. It appears to rub off fairly easily.

I think maybe we can use sound-proceeding software to slow down the whole passage's speed to help understand.

European finance ministers will meet today in a plan to save Greece from financial disaster. (Name) reports the constant financing Greek debt has continued to rise. Because of concern the country won't be able to reduce its budget deficit.

Last month Eurozone members said they would support Greece with below market rate loans if the country ran out of fund-raising options. That moment may have come. Greece has suffered successive credit downgrade from credit agency which has sent its borrowing cost higher and higher. The yield on Greek ten-year bonds has now soared past 7 percent. Compare that was (with) German government securities, Europe's benchmark, which pay just over 3 percent. The European aid will likely be a mix of International Monetary Fund support and bilateral loans. The Greek debt crisis poses a task for European leaders to prove that they can hold the Eurozone region together. Greece has to come up with more than fifteen billion dollars by next month to cover its obligations. The country's total debt stands nearly four hundred million dollars.

I googled the "actress Dixie Carter", and found the below info :

"A native of Tennessee, Carter was most famous for playing wisecracking Southerner Julia Sugarbaker for seven years on “Designing Women,” the CBS sitcom that ran from 1986 to 1993. "

So, i think the word should be "southerner", not "stunner" . 至於 "southerner" 前面是 sharp .....?? 還是聽不確定是什麼字 :?

Dear Michael,

Thank you for your modification. Actually, we talked about this sentence during the meeting. However, if it was a "with" here, there would be no verb in this sentence. :?
