Hi Sherry,
Your listening comprehension is nothing short of impressive! There are only a few minor corrections:
1. "The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights ...."
2. " ... more than 50 people have been killed since violence erupted Thursday ...."
3. " ... hundreds of reported rights violations."
4. "Her statement says armed men abducting people from their homes under the cover of a night time curfew are accompanied by the security forces or militia groups."
5. " ... after overturning the election commission's announcement ...."
Keep up the good work! Every word you read or listen to does something for you.

Supporters are calling yesterday’s Senate vote to abolish the ban on gay serving openly in the military a civil right’s milestone. One man kicked out of the military under “Don’t ask, don’t tell” called it as huge, but added it’s just one step in a very long process of becoming an equal right citizen. Opponents of lifting the ban argue the military should not be used to expand gay rights.
The University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball team had won for the record book today. The huskies defeated Ohio State, their 88th win in a row. From Washington, this is NPR.
The Iraq war veteran serving five life terms for killing members of an Iraqi family in xxx four years ago is speaking out about the crime. Xxx convicted a rape and killing a 14-years-old Iraqi girl and killing her parents and sister said he didn’t think of civilians as humans after being exposed to a string of war-zone violence.
The moon might look like something out of a horror movie late tomorrow night. NPR’s xxx reports it’s this year’s only total lunar eclipse

Hi Kooper,
Awesome work as always! Just a few tiny corrections:
1. " ... on gays serving openly in the military ... " (Linked sounds.)
2. " ... a civil rights milestone."
3. " ... under “Don’t ask, don’t tell” called it huge." (The announcer actually said "calls" but it should be "called".)
4. " ... becoming an equal rights citizen." (Another case of linked sounds.)
5. "Opponents of lifting the ban argued ... "
6. " ... had one for the record books today."
7. "The Huskies ... "
8. "Xxx, convicted of rape and killing a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and killing her parents and sister, said he didn’t think of civilians as humans after being exposed to extreme war zone violence.
Hope this helps.

I made more mistakes than I thought. Haha.
Happy Holidays. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year!
Re: YOYO-ISG 101226 Transcribing NPR News
You are both great! I'm a firm believer that in language production (it's a linguistic term meaning speaking and writing) we learn new things only through making mistakes and correcting them. Otherwise we are just repeating the same old stuff we have learned, no matter how "perfect" it is. So MORE MISTAKES = MORE LEARNING. Keep the mistakes coming!
Sorry to have to miss the next ISG meeting. Happy Holidays to all!

Haha. You are a born teacher, Kat.
I do believe that motivation is the key element to keep a learner going, and adequate encouragement provides one of the greatest sources of motivation. You are not only excellent in English, but also good at guiding the students.

The moon might look like some thing like horror movie late tomorrow night. NPR’s xxx reports it’s this year’s only total lunar eclipse. “Fly me to the moon, Let me play among the stars…” They will be parting xxx from L.A to xxx watching a spectacular show. The moon usually illuminate by the sun, when instead passed through earth’s shadow, the eclipse called inside is winter solstice and scientists think the moon will appear darker then usual turning deeper red even brown or black part because all the volcanic eruption even dump the dust in the atmosphere. North and Central America weather permitting should be able to watch the whole thing. The total eclipse suspects to start just after 11:30PM Pacific time, that’s 2:30 AM Eastern time and least about an hour. Unlike solar eclipse, lunar eclipse can be watched without protective lenses.

Hi Jackson,
Excellent job! This part is quite technical, and that makes your effort that much more impressive!
If you don't mind, here are a few corrections:
1. " ... look like something out of a horror movie ... "
2. "There will be partying at observatories from L.A. to Madison, Wisconsin watching ... "
3. "The moon, usually illuminated by the sun, will instead pass through the earth’s shadow."
4. "The eclipse coincides with winter solstice and scientists think the moon will appear to be darker than usual, turning a deep red or even brown or black in parts because of all the volcanic eruptions lately that'd been dumping the dust into the atmosphere."
5. " ... America, weather permitting, should be ... "
6. The total eclipse is suspected to start just after 11:33 PM Pacific Time, that’s 2:33 AM Eastern Time, and last about an hour."
7. "Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses can be ... "
Hope you saw the eclipse for real!
Sherry, kind words indeed! You are motivated and enthusiastic, and that makes you the best learner there is.
