Iris Wu 寫:I agreed, so I said "It makes sense to use "waive"."

I just had a question, what if the Chinese is "若中獎者於抽獎唱名三次後仍不在現場 , 則被取消得獎權利", how would you translate it?
(The same senario, 若中獎者於抽獎唱名三次後仍不在現場 becomes a penalty.)
Iris

Sorry, I didn't read your question carefully, 害你把問題再寫一次

If the Chinese is "則被取消得獎權利" , yeah, I think to translate it to "the right to the prize will be forfeited" should be fine

The tone of "will be forfeited" is stronger than "a waiver", so it is more polite to use "waiver"

Luis

I don't know it is Chinese to English or English to Chinese, but I believe for such a big and multinational company like Microsoft, the translation must be very formal and trustworthy

A simple sentence is possible.

The winner must be present within three calls of his/her name to receive the prize.
To receive the prize, the winner must be present within three calls of his/her name.
(Any difference?)

(In the examples above, "call" can be replaced by "announcemnet and "present", "at the scene" .)
Knowledge is power -- when shared.
