Sunday (Aug. 2) Movie Outing!

文章 Kat C »

Dear all,

It's the summer blockbuster time, and Lydia and I are thinking a movie outing with a discussion afterwards over afternoon tea or dinner! Care to join us?

I've looked up what's playing this Sunday. Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation seems to be the highest rated film out there. So that's our pick.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/mission ... ue_nation/

Join us Sunday, Aug. 2, at 台北信義威秀.

We're going for the regular movie and not the 4DX version. There's one starting at 11:55. We'll meet at the lobby at 11 am for the tickets (buy our own but hope to sit together). If you come after the show time, feel free to find us inside or join the discussion after the movie.

Not sure where to eat yet. Suggestions needed! Or we can play it by ear.

So there you have it. Lydia and I are looking forward to seeing you there!

Kat :D

A couple of people have expressed their interest to join. No need to sign up, just show up before the movie starts. I'd like to join the gang, too.

The following is what I learned from movie outing yesterday. Share with you............  :sun: :drink:

soapbox

That's the end of my soap box.

on one's soapbox
Expressing one's views passionately or self-importantly.
Dexter can't resist getting on his soapbox about school expenditures.
It was that point in the evening when my father got on his soapbox and started lecturing us on the evils of the modern world.

finish each other's sentences

Their relationship is like a fairytale romance. They gaze adoringly into each other's eyes and it's as if no one else in the world exists. They finish each other's sentences. The connection between them is almost tangible. I've never seen a couple like them ... it's like something out of a movie.

Couples in love often share the same interests, finish each other sentences, and laugh at the same jokes.

assertive

behaving in a confident way, so that people notice you
—assertively adverb
—assertiveness noun [uncountable]
assertiveness training
describes someone who behaves confidently and is not frightened to say what they want or believe堅定自信的;果敢的
If you really want the promotion, you'll have to be more assertive.
Prince Charles condemned the assertively modernist style of architecture.
You need to be more assertive to succeed in business.

pedestrian (a.)

ordinary and uninteresting and without any imagination:
a painting that is pedestrian and unimaginative
a rather pedestrian student

not interesting; showing very little imagination
Her books, with few exceptions, are workmanlike but pedestrian.
His speech was long and pedestrian.

wing it

(spoken) to do something without planning or preparing it:
We'll just have to wing it.

Excellent, Gloria!
Thanks for sharing the notes! They are all pretty useful.
-- "I haven't had time to prepare for tomorrow's debate, so I guess I'll have to just go out there and wing it." :)

Everyone has his/her own way of learning, but I would think taking notes is an effective one. I am hoping to see more people taking notes during group discussion, because it helps us to make summary for the group and we can all share the notes for further research and study. Things we have used/checked tend to stay with us deeper and longer. :)
