It might sadden sales guys, but I am afraid there is no magic bullet for closing a deal, and indifference is no exception.

I am usually the type of person who would like to be least disturbed by sales clerks in stores, but in some occasions I won’t make any purchase either if the clerk pays scant attention to me. A case in point, when walking into a clothing store planning to buy something like a pants or shirt, I could be overwhelmed by excessive choices and unable to make any decision. That’s when what we call choice paralysis happens. In such case, an experienced clerk would help me narrow down the range of choice to a manageable degree, say, three to four to select from, and then they would hands off and let me get in charge.

There is no one-size-fits-all sales pitch. The obstacle that stops a customer from dipping into their pocket varies. It is up to salesmen to isolate and get around them. It wouldn’t surprise me if a successful deal involves the application of multiple sales approaches.
