The death penalty discussion is always a big issue in Taiwanese society. Most researchers from academic colleges follow European countries and accept abolishing the death penalty based on human rights. But mainstream public opinion in Taiwan supports the death penalty and they also defend the victims’ rights.

Last month, Taiwan's Constitutional Court debated whether the death penalty violates the rights guaranteed under the Taiwanese constitution. The result may be published in the next few months. Due to the news, many people are back to discuss this topic.

I think the death penalty is a highly controversial issue, and is based on life values, and human rights. I don’t think we should reach a consensus on this matter. Instead, we can discuss it and find different perspectives we haven’t considered. And this progress increases our knowledge.

1. Do you support that every person should have human rights, no matter what serious crimes they commit?
2. Do you support Constitutional Justice can interpret the Taiwanese constitution instead of mainstream public opinion?
3. Why do law professionals and ordinary people have such huge gaps? And why do European countries also have big gaps with East Asia countries?

Section2.
4. No matter which side you support, what the Taiwanese constitution interpretation do you think is better for Taiwanese society? Can you accept the compromise such as sentencing the death penalty but not to execute?
5. Do you think that Taiwan has a good environment to discuss different opinions? Which countries can we model ourselves after? If communication is the most important skill in a democratic society, do we teach our students or civils to have this ability?
6. As AI develops, we can expect that “Seeing is believing” no longer works. How will AI impact the Judicial System?

2. We suggest that participants read the articles and think about the questions in advance.
3. Newcomers should prepare a two-to-three minute self-introduction in English to deliver when called upon by the host before the start of the discussion. The host may also ask you to give brief feedback about the meeting at the conclusion of the meeting.
4. We conduct the entire meeting in English. All participants should have at least moderate English-conversation skills and be able to articulate your ideas for each discussion question.
5. We welcome newcomers and other guests to attend the meetings and join the discussion freely for two times. After that, we hope you will consider becoming a YoYo English Club member. We charge a NT$1500 lifetime membership fee, or NT$1000 for students.

i for one support capital punishment. the most ridiculous reason for those advocates to go against death penalty is the reason based on so-called human right. that's really a logical fallacy i would say.
