文章 miller »

This is Miller, your host for the meeting on 10/6.
It's my honor to host again.
Last year, the heatwave broke temperature record in Europe.
And this year it hit United States, there were lots of wildfires happened in California.
The affected area is up to 10 times of last year.
The heatwave circulated around the world and it became a new normal.
According to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs(Body Needs->Security Needs->Social Needs->Ego Needs->Self Actualization), People would deal with the problem threating the life first.
Most resources are devoted into fighting COVID-19, we pay much less attention to cope with heatwave.
Meanwhile, these disasters accelerate the degeneration of income inequality.
It's like a dilemma, we need your wisdom to break the dilemma.
Welcome to join us!
In session 1, we discuss about what would you do during the heatwave visiting.
Then session 2, please share your opinion about what will be changed and what we can do.

1.Do you ever encounter the heatwave in your life? What's the feeling and how did you deal with it?
2.Nowadays, People have more important problem, like COVID-19, to cope with. The heatwave seems igonored.
In July 1995, Chicago, Illinois experienced a heat wave that caused over 700 deaths.
Heat waves kill more Americans than other natural disasters such as floods, lightning, tornadoes, and hurricanes.
Do you think it's a serious problem in the world? Why or Why not.
3.Urban areas often experience higher temperatures during the summer, referred to as “Urban Heat Island.”
This is due to buildings, roads, and other infrastructures absorbing solar energy, resulting in higher temperatures.
Most countries are going on the way of urbanization, compare with the benefit of urbanization, is it cost effective?
4.The human-being had overrun the living planet, it's a chance to make the earth cool down by COVID-19.
Is it possible to reverse the serious degeneration in the near future?

Session 2:
1.When the heatwave becomes a new normal, what will be changed?
2.If People are doing nothing, do we deserve to suffer from the serious heatwave in the future? And what would you take action?
3.If you are capable, what would you suggest to the authority of powerful countries and use what way to persuade them to take steps.

Vertical farm may be an answer. Some plants, like Devil's ivy, are super easy to grow. It's supposed to be not so difficult as long as governments pay attention on it. But sadly not every country has a government like Singapore.

In January 2019, when millions of Americans suffered bone-chilling weeks of cold winter, Trump tweeted, “What the hell is going on with Global Waming (yes, a wrong spelling in his tweet)? Please come back fast, we need you! “

In summer, 2020, Trump visited California while wildfires burning the West Coast, he blamed Californians did not clean the leaves in the forest. He thinks to dismiss the global warming and climate change issues is like to sweep his financial problems under the carpet and people will all buy into that. Maybe his fans do, but science will let the cat out of the bag. It is an inconvenient truth that humans are digging our own grave in this planet.

The extreme weather patterns and the fast-than-ever thawing of Arctic permafrost are alarming, but I do feel guilty for not diligently acting as a good global citizen to prevent or even just help to slow it down.

As long as we are aware to take steps, whenever we get started is never too late.
Through the meeting, we can share with others what to do.
That's another way to make contribution for global climate change.
