11/23(Tue)Moving towards a zero-carbon future. (Host: Alice)

文章 AliceChou »

Hi everyone, have you ever thought about what the world will look like in 2050 if we don’t cut carbon emissions in half?

Our world is getting hotter, an irreversible development now utterly beyond our control. We have already passed tipping points, like The Great Melting of the Arctic sea ice, which used to reflect the sun’s heat. Oceans, forests, plants, trees, and soil had for many years absorbed half the carbon dioxide we spewed out. Now there are few forests left, most of them either logged or consumed by wildfire, and the permafrost is belching greenhouse gases into an already overburdened atmosphere.
In less than a week, world leaders will convene in Glasgow for the most important climate conference of the year, the United Nations’ COP26. Developing countries such as India have argued that they are being put under pressure to move from fossil fuels to renewables, while developed countries are not helping them financially and with technology. At least one fifth (21%) of the world’s 2,000 largest public companies have committed to meet net zero targets, of course protecting the plant is not only corporations’ and nations’ responsibility but also ours. We are the first generation to know we’re destroying the world, and we could be the last that can do anything about it. We can minimize our carbon footprint and help the environment in many different ways. Whether at home, work, school, or while you travel, small changes can add up. In brief, to reduce your carbon footprint, you’ll want to do things like reduce the amount of energy you use, eat fewer animal products, shop locally, travel smart, and reduce your waste.

Session 1
1. How can climate change affect natural events? Can you name the recent climate change-liked disasters?
2. Do you support “Cheris alga reef”? will you practice referendum? Do you think the vote turnout can impact the current situation?
3. Is climate change caused by human? What are the main threats of climate change?
Session 2.
1. What can we do to stop climate change? Is it worthy to do that? Or it’s hopeless?
2. Do you try to reduce carbon in your daily life? Do you prefer to purchase eco-friendly products? Such as electric vehicle, recycle toilet paper, bamboo toothbrush..etc.? is using eco-friendly product really can help our earth?
3. Does your company have a sustainable program? What kind of challenge do they face? Can you name the businesses have committed to use 100% renewable electricity?
