6/14 (Tue.) Maker movement vs. cultural industry (Host: Rock)

文章 Rock »

Hi, guys, we are going to do this online meeting and I'd like to take advantage of it. We will have a Show & Tell.
Please find some information about 文創商品 on the internet. We are going to talk about it in our 2nd session.

Session One
The maker movement: A learning revolution

https://www.iste.org/explore/In-the-cla ... revolution
https://makerfairerome.eu/en/ The impulse to create is one of the most basic human drives. As far back as the Stone Age, we were using materials in our environment to fashion tools for solving the problems we encountered. And in the millions of years since then, we have never stopped creating. In fact, the rise of civilization is largely defined by the progress of technology of one kind or another.

Today, the availability of affordable constructive technology and the ability to share online has fueled the latest evolutionary spurt in this facet of human development. New tools that enable hands-on learning — 3D printers, robotics, microprocessors, artificial, virtual and augmented reality, e-textiles, “smart” materials and new programming languages — are giving individuals the power to invent. We’re not just talking about adults. Children of all ages can use these tools to move from passive receivers of knowledge to real-world makers. This has the potential to completely revolutionize education as we know it. And the movement has already begun.

Questions
1. As the article mentions, human beings have this impulse to create. What do you create? What are the things you make in your life?
2. What is maker movement? Why do we teach children to be makers in schools? Does it also benefit adults? Do you want to be a maker, too? Why or why not?
3. What is a maker faire for? Would you visit a maker faire? What would you see and do there in a maker fair?

Session Two

5. What are cultural industries or creative industries to you? Do you support them? Does the government need to do something to promote and support them? What can the government do for them?
6. Do you like Huashan1914 Creative Park? What do you see and do there? Have you ever bought any "文創商品" there? Why or why not?
