6/28 (Tue.) I FAKED AN ART GALLERY (Host: Liwen)

A young Youtuber Taz who came up with a surprising idea: She wants to make art, develop a collective of other Youtubers, hire a gallery, market her event, and host a group show. She documented the process of this interesting activity.
Let’s learn something from this video.
Video recommended before meeting:
PS: If you don’t have time, you can just watch 00:20, 01:27, 01:40 and 09:23

Questions for Discussion:
  • Q1. Do you think this youtuber really “fake” an art gallery? How about those paintings they made, are they actual arts or fake ones?

Q2. Imagine all the people who went to this gallery and bought paintings watching this video, would they fell they were being fooled?

Q3. If the profits of this exhibition didn’t go to the cancer charity, would people still buy artworks from this exhibition?

Q4. Do you think painting an abstract work is easier than painting a realistic one?
  • Q5. Have you ever bought any artwork? (painting, sculpture, photograph, drawing, etc.) Do you buy arts that you like or because you think it is worth something? (inspiration, investment, prestige, etc.)

Q6. If I give you two options: A giant painting beautifully painted semi realistic background scenery of a fantasy world. Or a red canvas with a white dot.
Tell me which one will you buy? Which one will you want to pay more for?

Q7. What do you think about abstract art? How do you appreciate abstract art?

Q8. A red painting with a white dot was getting sold for millions. How do the art dealers convince people that this paint is worth millions?
