Title: Our diet, how it affects our planet and our health.

Description:
I will make a presentation about the above mentioned topic. The presentation will be done during the first session and discussion on the topic will be done during the second session. The topic is about how the production of plant-based and animal-based foods affect our environment and resource-utilization. Also the effect on our health by consuming plant-and animal-based foods will be discussed. There is no prior reading material, as these areas will be will be discussed in the presentation. The discussions session will be based on the following questions related to the topic.
(Note: I have spent a considerable time to get reliable, unbiased data and also to read various studies in order to prepare the material, so hopefully everyone gets to the to the meeting on time in order to grasp the full context of the presentation.

Questions:
1. Please discuss, how much (by weight) in animal products you consume in a day (total of all meals in a day). Please write down the figures for each of chicken meat, pork, sheep/goat meat, beef, eggs, milk. How many grams of plant products (cooked rice, cooked beans, vegetables, root vegetables (such as potatoes, onions, etc) fruits) you consume? For context, a beef patty weighs about 100 grams. An egg weights about 40 grams.

2. Based on the data provided below, compare the total water used in each category; animal based foods and plant based foods that you consume in a day.

Liters of water usage to produce 100 grams of:

Animal products
Beef: 1540
pork: 600
Sheep/goat meat: 880
Chicken meat: 430
Eggs 330 (about 130 liters for one egg).
Milk: 100
Cheese: 950

Plant Products
Rice (100 grams of cooked): 80
Beans (100 grams of cooked): 140
Fruits: 100
Vegetables: 30
Starchy vegetables (potatoes, onions, etc.) : 40
Nuts: 900

3. As per the presentation, the resources utilization, environmental degradation, and waste disposal issues are many times higher for animal based foods compared to plant based foods, and it is not sustainable long-term, as population keeps growing. Knowing that, would you try to reduce your animal food consumption? How will you do it? For example by not eating meat once a week (such as meatless Monday) or having one meatless meal a day? Any other way?

4. Have you ever tried meat substitute products (vegetarian meats)? What do you prefer, vegetarian meats or actual vegetables? Do you prefer the Taiwanese version of meat substitutes or the western versions, such as Beyond meat, impossible burger, beyond eggs, etc.

5. What needs to happen for you to include more plant based foods in your diet (for example, better taste, better price, convenience, availability or any other criteria). Are you willing to sacrifice any of the criteria in order to contribute to lowering of resource utilization and environmental degradation or to improve your own health?
