5/6(Sat.) Atomic Habits (Host:Kooper)

Questions for Discussion
Session I:
1. What are some examples of aggregation of marginal gains and compound interest in your life or in the world?
2. How do you define a habit? What are the four stages of habit formation?

1st stage:
3. What are implementation intentions and the failure premortem, and how do they help us stick to our habits?

2nd stage:
4. One of the most overlooked drivers of human behavior is our physical environment; many of our desires are shaped by the environment that we are in. Can you give an example of how you have designed your environment to support or break one of your habits?

Bonus question: What are some habits that you want to start, stop, or improve? How can you apply the principles and strategies from the speech to achieve them?

Session II:
3rd stage:
5. Why does repetition matter more than perfect in an attempt to develop a good habit? What does this concept have in common with elastic habit?
6. Why is learning how to start the most important part of getting your repetition in? How can you use the two-minute rule to overcome procrastination or laziness and keep a routine?

4th stage:
7. Some of the good habits are difficult to get into because their cost or efforts is immediate while their rewards are delayed. The speaker suggested that the best way to change long-term behavior is a short-term feedback. Could you think of some tips that could bring the reward forward and make us enjoy it in the moment?
8. How do you track your habits and measure your progress over time? What are some tools or methods that you use or recommend?

Bonus question: How do a person's habits relate to their goals and even their self-identity?

Important Notes:
1. We advise participants to print out the discussion questions and bring them to the meeting for reference. As for the supporting articles, feel free to print them out, as well, according to your preference.
2. We suggest that participants read the articles and think about the questions in advance.
3. Newcomers should prepare a two-to-three minute self-introduction in English to deliver when called upon by the host before the start of the discussion. The host may also ask you to give brief feedback about the meeting at the conclusion of the meeting.
4. We conduct the entire meeting in English. All participants should have at least moderate English-conversation skills and be able to articulate your ideas for each discussion question.
5. We welcome newcomers and other guests to attend the meetings and join the discussion freely for two times. After that, we hope you will consider becoming a YoYo English Club member. We charge a NT$1500 lifetime membership fee, or NT$1000 for students.
