Hi All,
It’s my honor to host again and this right after the Olympic Games Paris 2024, I would like to make use of it to propose a topic about sports and exercises.
First of all, in session I, let’s start from the Olympic game:
1. What sports and players did you follow in the Olympic game and how did you follow?
2. Check the metal table here (we are ranked #35 this time, #34 last time):
https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/medals
a. Why is the U.S so good at this game? (ranked #1, 4 times in a row, ranked 2nd 2008)
b. Why is Japan so good at this game too? Japan won prize metals like ⅓ of the U.S while it has a similar ratio of population compared to the U.S. It seems to me that they are at the same level.
c. Like b, compared to China, Japan won half the number of metals but the ratio of population is 11 times. How would you explain this phenomenon?
3. If you were Lee Yang (李洋) or Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟), would you choose either clear 40M NTD at one time or get 250K NTD monthly? Why?
Secondly, please try to run deeper into some ethical and societal subjects together:
1. Our Olympic men's doubles badminton gold medalist Lee Yang (李洋) said on Wednesday (Aug. 7) that he hopes to run for president of the Chinese Taipei Badminton Association (CTBA, 中華台北羽球協會) to help more aspiring players. Do you think this is a good idea?
2. The women’s singles badminton gold medalist An Se-Young (安洗瑩) seemed more aggressively that she publicly criticized their BKA (Badminton Korea Association) did a shitly job taking care of their players including her. Do you think that it is necessary to do this in front of the world right after winning the gold metal?
3. As you may notice, both our champion boxer Lin Yu-ting and another champion Imane Khelif, from Algeria were accused by JK Rowling, Elon Musk and IBA (International Boxing Association) that they are not legitimate to join the game.
a. How do you know about that?
b. We don’t really know though, if they really have DSD (Disorders of Sex Development), would you think this gives them a decisive advantage over other female athletes and the IOC (International Olympic Committee) should change qualification conditions accordingly?
4. Do you think the social atmosphere in Taiwan is getting better or it is still at an early stage? What could we learn from Japan or U.S (or any other country that you know more)?
