We’ll also have a fun quiz and discussion over a bit of “tasting” experience.

Questions:

1. Portugal got its name from the famous city of _________, which was so named as a h________. And the nation’s best known wine is _______ wine.

Are there any drinking rituals or traditions you’ve encountered during your travels that left a lasting impression on you? If you could bring back one drink from any country to share with your friends at home, what would it be and why?

2. As the Portuguese saying goes, “There are 1001 ways to cook c______.” It’s a national obsession when it comes to this fish—the Portuguese consume 20% of the world’s output.

But Portugal’s most famous food has to be “Pastéis de Nata,” or Portuguese custard tarts. They are also wildly popular in Taiwan. The question is: how “Portuguese” are the ones we have here?

Have you ever tried a famous food in its country of origin that tasted quite different from the version you had at home? What was the difference?

3. Portugal was the world’s first maritime power and global empire, and launched the A____ of D_________.

When you travel, how does the experience of stepping into a foreign land influence your understanding of the world and your place in it?
