9/3 (Tue.) 25 Best Team Building Activities for Work in 2024 (Host: Janet)
Re: 9/3 (Tue.) 25 Best Team Building Activities for Work in 2024 (Host: Janet)
This takes me back to a team-building experience about 12 years ago when I led a technical team in Silicon Valley. We were developing a decision support system, and I had to collaborate with an analytical reporting team to optimize system functionality and performance.
It was an interesting work environment. I was in the minority because most of my colleagues were young male engineers from India and other countries. We also got an arrogant data modeler, who worked independently but was critical to our success. The data modeler’s arrogance was a source of frustration for all of us.
My counterpart, the manager of the analytical reporting team, arranged a team-building day trip filled with various games and activities. During the day, these Indian young engineers were incredibly supportive. They helped me, encouraged me to try many things that I had never tried before. They were very sweet, patient and respectful.
After that day trip, I found we built a much closer bond. We worked much more effectively together. It also strengthened our alliance, making it much easier to handle the challenges posed by the difficult data modeler.
