11/26(Tue)Knowing When to Quit Host: Liwen

Hello, dear Yoyos! This is Liwen Chen. I will be the host for the meeting on Tuesday night, November 26.
In the book 'Quit: The Power of Knowing When to Walk Away', Annie Duke delves into the
art of quitting and how recognizing when to give up is an essential life skill.
By understanding the art of quitting, we equip ourselves to make wiser decisions, avoid common
pitfalls, and achieve our goals more effectively.

Book Summary
Quit by Annie Duke: 7 Minute Summary (7:09) "Quit" by Annie Duke (Key insights) : Why Quitting is the Secret to Success? (5:20) Questions for Discussion:

Q2. What are some potential benefits of quitting mentioned in the book? Can you think of other scenarios where quitting might be beneficial?

Q3. Can you think of a situation in your own life where quitting at the right time allowed you to achieve something better or move toward a more fulfilling path? What were the key factors that made quitting the right decision?

Q5. Can you think of other companies that have successfully adapted to market changes? What did they do?

Q6. Why do people often find it harder to make rational decisions when facing losses or failure compared to when they are succeeding? What strategies can we use to adjust our goals when circumstances change?

In the realm of self-help, advice often spans two perspectives. To succeed, there is the call for grit—the power of perseverance and resilience (as highlighted in the inspiring TED Talk, https://youtu.be/H14bBuluwB8?si=fSNXr6gZOIhoJGlw
When people become overly obsessed with reaching a goal, their counterpart's advice emerges--the courage to stop and move on.

Regardless of the advice we follow, the hardest challenge lies in knowing ourselves and assessing our circumstances wisely and objectively. That’s why we first pray: May God (or whatever almighty power you believe in) grant us the wisdom to discern what is within our control and what is beyond it, and, secondly, the strength to carry on. :)
