  • Why when things seem to go well, suddenly, without warning, they stop working?
  • Questions that rarely have answers — all they do is increase the uncertainty.
  • How much does luck have to do in all of this? But, actually, in a second, everything can change.
  • Is it true when they say that if a door closed, a window opens?
  • Life, at times, seems to be driving itself. It turns, changes pace. How much do we really influence those changes?
This short animated film opens by raising the above questions, highlighting the protagonist's helplessness in the face of life's unpredictability. It tells the story of a successful writer who is struggling with a creative block. As his frustration intensifies, he meets a delivery girl who also works as an actress, leading to a conversation that might change everything. Many film critics love this film because it explores themes of inspiration, self-doubt, and the unpredictable nature of life, using simple yet expressive black-and-white animation with touches of red to evoke emotion. It has been widely recognized, winning awards such as Best Animated Short at the Animayo festival (2019) and gaining millions of views on YouTube. I found this film incredibly intriguing and thought it would make for a great conversation at a Saturday afternoon gathering.

(A friendly reminder: Since the film delves into the unpredictability of life, the following questions may shift just as unexpectedly. The good news is that these questions are provided as suggestions for discussion, but feel free to explore other related questions of your own if you prefer.)

Questions
Session I
1. The writer said in the film, "Fame is a spot on the tip of the nose; everyone sees it except you." How would you interpret this statement? How do you think fame affects a person’s identity? Is it possible to stay true to oneself while being famous?
2. What do you think the writer may have discovered in the box at the end of the story? In the context of the story, what could the mysterious box possibly represent?
3. What might the delivery girl symbolize beyond the character in the story? How would your interpretation of the story change if the delivery girl were merely a figment of the writer’s imagination?
4. Are there any specific lines or moments of dialogue in the film that resonate deeply with you? how did they make you feel?
Session II
5. What were your initial impressions and thoughts after watching the film? How do you think the black-and-white style, along with the occasional use of red might affect the viewer’s emotional response or interpretation of the story?"
6. What do you think of the film's title, 'Who Are You'? Do you feel it effectively conveys the themes of the film, and if so, in what way? Have you ever thought that what you believe the box contains (Q2) might somehow reflect who you are?
7. Have you ever had a similar experience where you were stuck for some time, and then suddenly realized a breakthrough moment?
8. Do you believe that serendipity can drastically change the course of someone’s life? If so, do you or anyone you know ever experienced it? How have those experiences shaped your life or theirs?

Fair enough, 'I am what I am' – straightforward, yet powerful, and to the point!
(For one moment, I thought you said 'I AM WHO I AM.' That would’ve been overly mysterious and even divine for me to comprehend :)

You made an interesting point. It makes me think about how even small moments, like meeting someone unexpectedly, can sometimes completely change our path in life.
