3/25(Tue.) Do you envision a future where AI is a part of everyday life? (Host:Jiahau)

文章 Jiahau »

Hi all, I'm excited to host this coming Tuesday night event. As the title says, let's spark some wild ideas!

As AI is getting more and more powerful, it becomes a crucial tool to deal with my daily tasks. It makes my life easier for getting structural information, stimulating my imagination and having a joyful experience when talking to it.

Overall, this technology improves my life in any sorts of ways. I am curious what your thoughts about it. Here is a video for demonstrating how it works. The following are some suggested questions to discuss with

Session 1:

1. Have you ever used a chatbot like this? What do you typically use it for? Any fascinating tricks or insights you've discovered?
2. The most well-known chatbot is ChatGPT. What’s your experience using it? How does it compare to others like Gemini, Grok, or DeepSeek?
3. Technology is a double-edged sword. What concerns do you think people should be aware of?
4. Would you consider this a disruptive innovation? If so, how do you think it will reshape our future?

Even though people general call the chatbot as "AI" and make analogies with human level intelligence, we still think it as a tool rather than a conscious being. What's consciousness anyway? I found this cute video very convincing for explaining the origin of consciousness Session 2:

1. What are your thoughts on consciousness? Do you agree with the idea that it begins as a directed motion of a hungry self toward a source of food? If not, what’s your theory or perspective on it?
2. How do you determine whether other beings are conscious? Do you use any criteria for consciousness beyond those mentioned in the video, such as object permanence, theory of mind, or language ability?
3. Does your criteria for consciousness exclude AI from being considered conscious?
4. Suppose AI or humanoids do meet our criteria for consciousness. What kind of society would we be living in? How should humans interact with them?

Feel free to share any thoughts that come to mind. Don’t let the questions limit your imagination :)

It’s a trendy topic. I recently attended a discussion where people shared their real-world experiences with current AI tools. I’ve always been more of a laggard when it comes to advanced technology gadgets. But with AI, for some reason, I feel like I’m leaning toward being an early adopter — or at least not part of the late majority.

I understand it’s like other technological innovations. There’s always some hype, and these tools are still imperfect. However, I can already see their practical uses in our daily lives. A few early adopters have inspired me with their use of these tools, which helps me visualize how AI innovations might reshape our future. We’ll chat about these cases in the meeting.
