Centuries later, Marley attacks Paradis Island, sending warriors like Bertolt, Reiner, and Annie. The Colossus Titan (Bertolt) breaches Wall Maria, leading to a titan invasion and the death of Eren (initially referred to as Aaron)'s mother. Eren vows revenge and joins the Survey Corps. He later gains the power of the Attack Titan and the Founding Titan.
The Survey Corps fights against titans, including the Female Titan (Annie) and the Beast Titan (Zeke). Historia becomes queen. The truth about the outside world and the history of Eldia and Marley is gradually revealed.
Eren infiltrates Marley and initiates a war. He orchestrates the Rumbling, where colossal titans from within the walls begin to destroy the world, aiming to protect Paradis.
An alliance is formed to stop Eren. After a final battle, Mikasa kills Eren, ending the Rumbling. In the aftermath, peace talks begin, and Eren's head is buried on Paradis.
Session I
1. Zeke Yeager, believing that Eldians' power will always be a curse upon the world, proposes a plan for peaceful euthanasia — sterilizing all Eldians so the race naturally dies out, ending the Titans once and for all. On the other hand, his half-brother, Eren Yeager, decides to unleash the "Rumbling," using an army of colossal Titans to destroy most of humanity(around 80% of the population) outside their homeland, hoping to ensure the survival and freedom of his people through overwhelming force.
- If you were put in the same position, which course of action would you find more justifiable: Zeke’s euthanasia plan or Eren’s mass genocide through the Rumbling? Why?
- Do you think there is a viable third option for resolving the conflict? Or is the idea of a "necessary evil" truly the only way to bring about a resolution?
- Although compulsory sterilization has been banned in many parts of the world, moral manipulation is still sometimes used to convince certain groups—such as those deemed to have genetic flaws or vulnerable populations—to accept sterilization voluntarily. Do you think it is morally justifiable to persuade or coerce individuals into sterilization, even under the guise of a greater good or for their own supposed benefit?
2. In Attack on Titan, one of the most powerful moments comes during humanity’s desperate battle against the Beast Titan. Commander Erwin Smith, knowing the soldiers under his command have almost no chance of survival, delivers a final speech.
He acknowledges the grim reality: they are going to die.
But even in the face of certain death, he calls on them to fight — to ride into death not for guaranteed victory, but to create the slim possibility that someone else might live to carry on their dream. Here is the blow-by-blow:
- Is it morally justifiable for a leader to send their people to certain death for the sake of a cause, a dream, or the hope of a better future?Everything that you thought had meaning: every hope, dream, or moment of happiness. None of it matters as you lie bleeding out on the battlefield. None of it changes what a speeding rock does to a body, we all die. But does that mean our lives are meaningless? Does that mean that there was no point in our being born? Would you say that of our slain comrades? What about their lives? Were they meaningless?... They were not! Their memory serves as an example to us all! The courageous fallen! The anguished fallen! Their lives have meaning because we the living refuse to forget them! And as we ride to certain death, we trust our successors to do the same for us! Because my soldiers do not buckle or yield when faced with the cruelty of this world! My soldiers push forward! My soldiers scream out! My soldiers RAAAAAGE!
- Is it also justifiable for the solders to disobey the order and rebel in this circumstances?
- If you were in the same circumstances as the soldiers under Erwin’s command, what would you do?
3. After a brutal battle with the Titan from Marley, both Erwin and Armin are left on the verge of death. At that point, the team can only save one person with the only titan serum:
Erwin, a brave commander who has led many battles and sacrificed everything for humanity.
Armin, a young dreamer with big ideas and a sharp mind who hasn’t done as much yet — but might change the world someday.
- If you had to choose, who would you save — Erwin or Armin?
- Would you choose based on what helps the most people (utilitarianism) or based on what you feel is the right thing to do, no matter the outcome (deontology)?
- Have you ever faced (or can imagine) a similar “no good option” kind of choice?
Session II
1. Mikasa is genetically modified as part of the Ackerman clan to protect whoever she sees as her "host"—in this case, Eren. This modification not only enhances her physical abilities but also shapes her instincts and actions, often driving her to protect him at all costs.
- Do you believe in free will, or do you think our actions are determined by factors beyond our control(determinism)? Why?
2. "Oneitis(真命天女/天子症)“ refers to an obsessive infatuation with a person, often viewing them as "the one" or the perfect partner, to the point where it can cloud judgment and lead to unhealthy emotional dependency.
- Have you ever experienced it yourself, or seen it happen to others? Do you see it as a natural part of human emotions, or a problem that needs to be addressed — and if so, what do you think are healthy ways to deal with it?
- Which gender do you think is more prone to it , and why?
- Do you think it’s mainly due to biological differences (like emotional wiring), or is it more because of how people are raised and shaped by culture (like media, family expectations, or social norms)?
3. One of the most famous lines from Attack on Titan is the idea that “we are all slaves to something” — whether it’s our desires, our fears, our love, our dreams, or even our sense of duty.
- Do you agree with this idea? Why or why not?
- Can true freedom ever really exist, or are we simply choosing what we are enslaved by? Please share your thoughts
