5/10 (Sat.) How to see the future coming — and prepare for it (Host: Janet)

Hi Everyone,

I'm glad to be the host again. I found this intriguing TED talk by Jane McGonigal.
She is the director of game research and development at the nonprofit Institute for the Future, Jane McGonigal specializes in creating simulations of hard-to-imagine scenarios, helping people develop strategic, creative tools to anticipate and create the outcomes they want. She also wrote a book named "Imaginable: How to See the Future Coming and Feel Ready for Anything, Even Things That Seem Impossible Today."

In the period of turmoil or instability nowadays, I think it's fun to see how she teaches people to cope with the situation by learning to be a futurist.
Here are the links as below for your reference.

Questions for Discussion
Session I:

1. Future Thinking: McGonigal encourages people to imagine future scenarios in order to prepare for them. How can mental time travel help individuals and organizations become more resilient?

2. Signals of Change: She talks about identifying signals that hint at future trends. What are some examples of small signals that might indicate big changes in the near future?

3. Gaming and Preparedness: McGonigal emphasizes the role of gaming in strengthening our ability to think about the future. How can playing games make us better at predicting and responding to future challenges?

Session II:
1. Optimism vs. Realism: How can we balance optimism about the future with the realism needed to address potential risks?

2. Personal Application: What strategies from McGonigal’s talk can you apply to your own life to better prepare for the future?

3.Future Shock or Future Excitement? Imagine waking up in the year 2045—what would be the most surprising thing about the future, and how would you adapt to it?
