7/5 (Sat.) How to Make Big Decisions (Host: Lewis x Annie)

文章 Lewis Lu »

Hi Yoyoers,

Me and Annie will be moving to Kaohsiung in late July! It’s a big change, and one that came after countless discussions, debates, and soul-searching.

When you're facing a major life decision, how do you approach it? What factors do you consider? What helps you feel confident about your choice?

Let’s talk about life choices — how we make them, what we learn from them, and everything in between.

Materials:

Session 1:

1. What makes a choice “hard”? Is it the lack of clear pros and cons, or the emotional weight attached to it?
2. When facing a big decision, do you tend to prioritize logic, emotion, or personal values? Has this changed over time?
3. Ruth Chang suggests hard choices define who we are. Do you agree? Can you share a decision that shaped your identity?
4. How much do you rely on external advice when making big choices? Do you find it helpful, or does it sometimes create more confusion?
5. How do you personally deal with the discomfort of uncertainty? Do you lean into it, avoid it, or try to rationalize it away?

Session 2:

1. Is it better to take calculated risks or play it safe when making life-changing decisions? Can you share a time when you did either?
2. LeDoux discusses how stress affects our brain’s decision-making. In your experience, does pressure help you focus—or does it lead to poor choices?
3. Have you ever made a decision you regretted—or were surprised to feel relieved by later? What did it teach you?
4. With the rise of decision-making apps and AI tools, do you think technology can help us make “better” choices? Or does it take away something human from the process?
5. After a major decision, how do you usually adjust or course-correct if things don’t go as expected? What helps you stay grounded?
