Living in aged society, elders (older than 65 years old) are more than 14% in Taiwan. According to Ministry of the Interior, elders will reach 20% and called super-aged society. More and more people need long-term care due to high probability of disability while growing old. Today, we will discuss about long-term care and the relationship between long-term medical care and technologies. Let start today’s sessions.
Session one:

When people become disabled, long-term care wound be needed. Long-term care would affect not only patients themselves but also their family. So, what is long-term care?

Session two:
Under the development of technology and artificial intelligence, our lives and healthcare systems changed tremendously. Technologies, including telemedicine, remote monitoring technologies, AI-assisted image reading have reduced a big amount burden for medical giver nowadays. Facing aging society with increasing long-term care requirements, could technology and AI could solve this conundrum?

Just several days ago, Tesla demonstrated to the world an early prototype of their human-like AI robot. To me, that robot shows great promise for mitigating the looming long-term care crisis around the globe. One strong reason for my optimism is that humanoid robots can fit seamlessly into typical household environments, which are designed and laid out in a way catering to the human skeleton. The AI-based robots will also save us the trouble of a full-scale upgrade to smart home, which is expensive and complex. Through deep learning, it isn’t far-fetched that the robot can assist in daily living activities, such as taking food out of a refrigerator, heating it by microwave oven, and bringing it, together with proper tableware, to an older person.
